Sharon Osbourne has said she will never do an X Factor-style show again – saying they are ‘too harmful’ to contestants.
The 71-year-old wife of wild man of rock Ozzy said that young contestants were often “brushed aside” after a brief stint in the spotlight. The mum-of-three – who was a judge on X Factor from 2004 until 2007, again in 2013, and again between 2016 and 2017 – said it “wasn’t right” to put youngsters under so much pressure.
Sharon, who was also a judge on America’s Got Talent from 2007 until 2012, said: “I was a judge on X Factor for years, but I’d never do a talent show again. It’s not right to put kids through that pressure. That’s particularly true of reality-based shows.

“Young people aren’t mentally prepared for what’s going to happen to them. When they fall by the wayside, they get brushed aside.” Speaking previously, she said Nazi leader Adolf Hitler would be given his own TV show these days. She said that “everyone” in the entertainment industry was a “hypocrite”, saying: “In the entertainment industry everyone’s a hypocrite, everybody’s a jobsworth. If Hitler were alive today, they would give him a TV show.”
It comes after Sharon admitted she once became so frustrated that her husband Ozzy wouldn’t stop playing a track by Phil Collins that she threw the record out of a moving vehicle. She revealed how the Black Sabbath rocker was obsessed with In The Air Tonight. He played it so many times Sharon – a fan of the ex-Genesis star, – tossed it away.
Sharon said: “Ozzy and I both love Phil, everything he’s ever done. Ozzy became obsessed with this track when we were on tour in America. He would play it in his dressing room, and then on the bus… this must have been going on for three months.” Sharon could not bear to hear the tune, with its chorus of, “I can feel it coming in the air tonight, oh lord”, one more time.

She added: “I said, ‘I love Phil, but you are driving me insane’. So I threw it out the window.” Phil has been a beloved member of the music industry for many years but after concerns with his health he has since retired from performing. Collins injured himself during one performance and in March 2022 he confirmed he would no longer be performing.
His pal and big supporter Ozzy also followed suit after his own health battles and opted to leave performing in the past. His tour dates which were previously set for May 2023 were pushed back as he announced his retirement.
