The Chase viewers were left fuming at Shaun Wallace, accusing the show of being “fixed”.
In Monday’s episode (November 11) of the ITV quiz show, Shaun faced off against Stephen, Rachel, Tom and Bev. The first to challenge the Dark Destroyer was Stephen, a 42-year-old product development manager.
Stephen demonstrated his impressive knowledge in the cash builder round, bringing £7,000 to the table. As the first contestant, Stephen decided not to risk taking the high offer and stuck with his original sum.
Shaun seemed to be on top form in the first head-to-head, not getting a single question wrong before knocking Stephen out in a massive blow to the team.
However, his winning streak came to a sudden halt when he took on Rachel. The 20-year-old student earned £4,000 in the cash builder, but opted to take the low offer of £1,000 in an attempt to get back to the team, reports the Express.
Shaun let Rachel extend her lead after incorrectly guessing that lambswool gets heavier when it burns, rather than steel wool.
They were then asked: “What part of the Statue of Liberty is approximately 29 feet long?” While Rachel correctly guessed torch, Shaun thought the answer was crown.
In another unexpected move, Shaun guessed that ‘practical joke’ was the answer when asked: “A corny joke or pun is known by what expression?” instead of ‘dad joke’.
He then went on to incorrectly guess that there was only one American state beginning with ‘T’, rather than two.
Viewers were left gobsmacked as Shaun ‘The Dark Destroyer’ Wallace fluffed up a storm on ITV’s The Chase, with one fan tweeting: “Surely Shaun is letting her get through. He can’t be that stupid. Surely.”
Another viewer was quick to comment on the Chaser’s performance: “Shaun gets more wrong in this round than the other Chasers usually do in the whole show,” while someone else added: “Has Shaun got any questions right??”.
One more chimed in with disbelief: “Nah, there is no way Shaun Wallace is getting some of these questions, genuinely, wrong. He’s being told to put the wrong answers!”.
A disgruntled fan didn’t hold back, saying: “Shaun Wallace doesn’t know what a dad joke is? Oh f*** off! He’s a mastermind champion and here he is helping to fix The Chase.”
Despite the conspiracy theories flying around, Shaun proved his mettle by sending 32-year-old Tom packing, leaving teammates Bev and Rachel to face him in the final chase with £8,000 in the pot.
In a tense showdown, Shaun dashed the duo’s hopes, catching them with a cool 31 seconds to spare, despite their respectable tally of 15 correct answers.
