Status Quo’s Francis Rossi says going on stage is ‘taxing’ and his body ‘hurts’

Status Quo frontman Francis Rossi has revealed it “hurts” to keep Rockin’ All Over The World.

The singer, 74, explained he has to spend weeks in training to prepare for his shows. Rossi said: “The Quo is taxing as it’s a physical thing that the body tenses when you walk on and you feel you have to try to deliver this energy and try and live up to whatever last night was.”

He went on to add: “We will go at rehearsals in a few weeks’ time and every day you go in and try and get used to building this energy. And that hurts at first, which is why I’m in training.”

“I do all sorts of stuff to build up,” said Rossi. He also revealed that Rolling Stones legend Mick Jagger, 80, is also currently “in training” too.

The Whatever You Want hitmaker added: “It sounds silly about music that you’re in physical training for music. But believe me, there’s a physicality to this that is very demanding.”

Rossi’s comments come after his band member Rick Parfitt suffered a heart attack in 2016. He was raced to hospital after he’d performed with Status Quo in Turkey.

At the time, he was treated for Aspendos Andalou which is a serious condition. just six months later, Parfitt died after contracting Sepsis.

However Rossi, who had watched paramedics revive his friend in June at his hotel room, said medics should not have tried as hard as they did to save him.

Taking to his recording studio at his home in an interview with Sky News in 2017, he explained that he’d had a strained relationship with the guitarist over the years. He said: “People think I hated Rick.

“We got fractious between us at times, and he could be a pest, but he was my best friend for a long, long time.” The frontman went on to say: “I know what I feel for Rick inside. That’s when it hurt. That’s when I should have stopped them. I wanted them to leave him alone.

“They were physically hurting him and if you saw the state he was in and what they were doing to his body… I wanted to hurt the people who did that.” He later added: “He was dead as far as I was concerned.”
