Strictly Come Dancing boss ‘fighting for job’ after ‘damaging’ BBC scandal

Strictly’s boss Suzy Lamb is reportedly fighting for her job amid the show’s ongoing scandal.

The BBC show’s most senior boss could reportedly lose her job due to a restructure. It comes following the scandal that emerged when it was claimed professional dancer Giovanni Pernice was ‘abusive’ towards his dance partner Amanda Abbington during the 2023 series.

A source claimed to Daily Mail: “The Strictly scandal has been very damaging to Suzy. She’s the top boss so the buck stops with her. There’s clearly been a culture behind the scenes on the show and with every former contestant that speaks out, it all comes back to Suzy.”

Pernice has strongly denied these allegations while fellow professional Graziano Di Prima was recently booted off the show’s lineup for the upcoming series. Zara McDermott, his former dance partner, claims he “repeatedly hit and kicked” her during rehearsals.

While these allegations unfold, Lamb is reportedly fighting against another BBC colleague in a bid to maintain her role as Strictly Come Dancing’s top dog amid a company reshuffle. Her position as Managing Director of Entertainment and Music is claimed to be merging with Managing Director of Factual Entertainment and Events Production, currently held by Hannah Wyatt.

This means with just one spot left open, Lamb’s role at the company could be at risk after being at the BBC for seven years. Before she joined back in 2017, she worked with Thames and launched the dating show Take Me Out, as well as overseeing The X-Factor.

A spokesperson for the BBC told Daily Star: “The proposed restructure concerns our entire unscripted entertainment business at BBC Studios Productions and is not connected to any single programme. We announced this move in June and it would be wrong to speculate on any aspect of its outcome, particularly individual roles, given consultation has yet to conclude.”

After the recent Strictly scandal, the BBC released a statement and confirmed that they will be taking action involving the training sessions with professionals and celebrities. They said: “The BBC is today announcing additional steps to strengthen welfare and support on Strictly Come Dancing. Concerns that have arisen in recent months have been fundamentally about training and rehearsals.”

“The actions we announce today are designed to address that. We have taken the decision to introduce the following additional practical steps. Going forward, we will have a production team member present during training room rehearsals at all times; increase existing support with the addition of two new roles on the show dedicated to welfare support – a Celebrity Welfare Producer and a Professional Dancer Welfare Producer; and deliver further training for the production team and crew.”
