The Chase’s Bradley Walsh floored by contestant who needs prize fun to feed ‘The Beast’

Bradley Walsh couldn’t stop laughing when a contestant on The Chase explained that he needed the winnings to feed his enormous pet, ‘The Beast’.

57-year-old Michael from Sheffield had the audience in stitches as he explained that he lives alongside a crazed animal that simply won’t stop eating. But while a name like The Beast conjures up images of an enormous dog or perhaps an intimidating cow, in reality, the furry fellow in question is actually a guinea pig.

He explained: “I’ve got a guinea pig that just keeps on eating and eating. He keeps on getting bigger and bigger.” An amused Bradley asked: “Are you sure it’s not just a very small pig?”

Sticking to his guns, the contestant confirmed: “No, it’s a guinea pig. It’s like a stomach on legs, Brad. He’s like the beast of guinea pigs. I need a bigger cage for him.”

Mr Beast is a huge guinea pig

With a huge smile across his face, Bradley chuckled: “You’ve not just come on The Chase to win a cage for your guinea pig?”

At this point, Michael confessed another motive for appearing on the quiz show, taking the viewers on a stroll down memory lane.

He said: “In 1974, Slade released a song called ‘Far, Far Away’. He sings about where he’s been and what he’s seen around the world. I’m trying to replicate that.”

Having worked in the computer industry and travelled to theatres far and wide to watch musicals such as Blood Brothers, the Yorkshireman has done a great deal in his life. But there are still two accomplishments he’d like to make.

He revealed: “I want to see the morning in the mountains of Alaska and feel the silence hanging low in No Man’s Land. If I do those two things, I’ll have ticked a box off.”

With the audience on his side, Michael showcased fantastic knowledge on The Only Way is Essex and the Ivory Coast football team to accumulate an impressive £6000.

At this point, it was time for the competitor to go toe-to-toe with ‘The Dark Destroyer. And things got off to a cracking start. After the Chaser made a joke that didn’t land with the audience, Michael said: “There’s a tumbleweed here,” officially making it one-nill to the quizzer. But, of course, that wasn’t the collision that really mattered.

Alas, following a tense battle, it was The Dark Destroyer that came out on top, sending Michael home and leaving the Beast without the new cage he so desperately needs.
