The Chase’s Jenny Ryan floored by Joel Dommett’s ‘bravery’ after making ITV history

Jenny Ryan praised Joel Dommett ‘s “bravery” after he made history on The Chase.

The Masked Singer presenter appeared on ITV’s Beat the Chasers in 2022, joining Bradley Walsh for the celebrity edition of the show. The episode was repeated on ITV on Friday (March 1) and saw the 38-year-old attempt to win some money for his chosen charity, Brain Tumour Support.

Before he went head-to-head with the chasers, Joel reflected on his two previous appearances on the show as he recalled losing both times. Jenny Ryan interjected, claiming the I’m A Celebrity star should give himself more credit for his performances.

“You’re selling yourself short,” The Vixen said. “You got back into the head-to-head against me. You played the final by yourself for a record amount of money.”

She added: “You showed a lot of bravery on that day.” She was referencing when the comedian had a chance to win a staggering £150,000 for his chosen charity when he appeared on The Chase: Celebrity Special in 2020.

When it came to the chasers putting some offers on the table, Mark Labbett couldn’t resist sending Joel on a trip down memory lane. The Beast offered him a whopping £150,000 if the five chasers were allowed 42 seconds on the clock.

The studio audience were keen for the dad-of-one to take the offer, demanding “redemption” for the last time he was on the show. But Joel decided to play for £30,000 and against four chasers instead.

Despite getting off to a good start, Joel eventually ran out of time. He didn’t leave empty-handed as he walked away with £1,000 for Brain Tumour Support.

Joel first competed on the celebrity version of The Chase in 2015 before trying his luck once again five years later. The ITV host was joined by impressionist Ronnie Ancona, athlete Adam Gemili and comedian Dave Johns.

Joel was left to compete by himself when all three of his co-stars were knocked out. After earning £4,000 in his cash builder, the comedian was stunned when Jenny offered him an eye-watering sum of £150,000 – the highest amount ever offered to a single player in the show’s history at that time.

Joel decided to go for it and managed to make it through to the final chase after a nail-biting head-to-head. In the final round he answered a respectable 11 answers correctly.

But unfortunately for Joel, it was an easy number for Jenny to catch. Despite not winning the jackpot, Joel was given £1,000 for his chosen charity, The Teenage Cancer Trust.
