This Morning star admits he ripped into ‘TV mum’ Lorraine Kelly for ‘hideous’ style

This Morning star Gok Wan has recalled ripping into his telly pal Lorraine Kelly.

The much-loved fashion guru and queen of morning talk show Lorraine teamed up back in 2008 for Gok’s Fashion Fix. Here the stylish “poked fun” at his “TV mum” for her wardrobe choices.

On the show, Gok rigorously went through some of her statement looks from over the years and didn’t hold back on sharing his honest opinion with her. In an unearthed clip of the pair on the show, Gok could be heard telling Lorraine that some items in her closet “should never have seen the light of day”.

In the clip, Gok could also be seen fishing out some of her fashion faux pas from a previous decade and dubbing it as the “most hideous thing” he’s ever seen.

Gok said on the show: “We have hunted high and low for this jacket. Over all the years, I’ve seen some mistakes, and some amazing things, but this is potentially the most hideous thing I’ve ever seen in my entire life. I don’t know whether that would ever have been in fashion.” Lorraine laughed: “I don’t think you’ll get any worse than that.”

But does Gok think Lorraine has learned from her style mistakes nowadays? He said: “Do I think Lorraine has taken on my tips? Probably not…

“But she’s gorgeous and she was lovely to work with. You have to have fun with it and you’ve got to poke a little bit of fun sometimes.

“What was wonderful about making Fashion Fix back then is that it had these great segments where we would fly out to the South of France to meet Joan Collins and be really cheeky. Other times I would be hanging out with Alan Carr with his bloody horse jacket.

“The wonderful thing is I’ve stayed friends with loads of those people, like with Alan and Lorraine, who I call my TV mum. And so they don’t mind me poking fun.

“But I think the interesting thing about Lorraine is she does have her own signature style. She’s so confident about what she wears and how she looks because she’s confident inside her brain. And that’s so important.”

We spoke to Gok as he promoted JD Williams’ new midlife fashion campaign where he worked alongside Helen Skelton and Judi Love. Talking further about the project, Gok said: “I’ve been working with JD Williams this year, which has been a match made in heaven. They asked me to come on board for their midlife campaign, but midlife had a very positive way.

They loved working together on the campaign

“When we often think about midlife, we think of midlife crisis, we go midlife terror. But actually, it’s not about that. It’s about embracing your experiences, the wisdom that you found over the years getting to know your body, getting to know your clothing, your style. Here, I got to work with Judi Love who we know is a great comic and this woman and Helen Skelton who of course is from Country File and Blue Peter.

“I got the opportunity to dress them and talk to them about juggling careers and children and being on screen being on stage and just what it feels like to dress yourself. It was a fun super campaign that resonated very well with the audience and a lot of people not only existing JD Williams customers, but also hopefully new customers as well.”

JDWilliams.co.uk has partnered with TV personalities Judi Love, Gok Wan and Helen Skelton as part of a new campaign aimed at challenging misconceptions surrounding midlife women and celebrating their relevance, roles, and individuality. This collaboration introduces two distinct edits curated by fashion expert Gok, tailored specifically for Judi and Helen based on their unique styles, body shapes, and personalities. Each item of clothing is available online now in sizes 8 to 32.
