This Morning star leaves co-stars in stitches as he fawns over AI-generated beauty

One of This Morning ‘s most-beloved stars has sent the show into a frenzy after he gushed over a woman generated by artificial intelligence (AI).

Veteran broadcaster and former politician Gyles Brandreth, 76, made another appearance on the ITV show on Monday (June 3). He was joined by regular weekday hosts Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard, as well as presenter Isla Traquair.

On the show, the foursome were discussing the big news hitting the headlines on the day. This included debates on straight actors playing gay roles, as well as heartfelt tributes to rugby player Rob Burrow, who sadly died due to motor neuron disease on Sunday (June 2).

As the conversations went on, Ben and Cat said that the show was to go to a commercial break. However, ahead of going off-air, Ben and Cat gave a taste of some of the interesting items that would be coming up on the show that day.

In one interesting item, Ben and Cat explained how artificially generated women are being entered into beauty pageants. As they promoted the item, they gave some backstory to one of the supposed “girls” taking part in the competitions.

Ben explained: “We’re also treating you to Anne Kurdy. Now, she’s an ambassador for the French region of Brittany and passionate about protecting the oceans – except, she’s not actually real.”

Several photos of “Anne” appeared on the screen to give viewers an idea of how AI had generated the character. However, by doing so, Brandreth appeared to be rather taken by the images the computer had generated.

As Cat attempted to continue with the item, Gyles seemed to be rather struck by the mock-up – with Ben noticing before duping him in, cheekily commenting: “Yes Gyles!” Cat continued to deliver the lines in the script, but the broadcaster admitted he was already won over by the AI-generated woman.

“Looking at that picture, someone must be thinking, ‘Oh I quite fancy her!'” Gyles said, before Cat and Ben reminded him that she was not a real person. With seconds to go until the show went off-air, Cat tried to continue reading the prompter, but Brandreth continued to interrupt her.

As she carried on, Gyles butted in and exclaimed: “I think I’ve found the answer to all my problems!” This sent the foursome into a fit of hysterics, with Ben quipping amidst the laughter: “It’s the stuff of your dreams.”

Both Ben and Cat had to take a moment to recollect themselves as they tried to finish the segment. As the cameras were cut, Cat’s mic was still turned on, as she said: “Yeah, isn’t it bizarre?”, though it was not clarified whether Gyles’ reaction had prompted the response.

This Morning airs every weekday at 10am on ITV1 and ITVX
