‘Very disturbing’ movie that ‘horrified’ film fans ‘wish they’d never seen’

Film fans have been left scarred by one “horrifying” movie.

In the Netflix Bangers group on Facebook, one member wrote: “Sometimes I wish I had never watched this movie,” as fellow filmgoers gathered in the comment section to discuss Incendies and agree. One person simply typed: “Horrifying,” while someone else wrote: “[…] I watched this movie [a] long time ago. Very sad and very disturbing […] Very disturbing movie really.”

Another comment agreed that the film was “disturbing” while someone else admitted that it its a “masterpiece”. Incendies is a 2010 war film directed by Dune star Denis Villeneuve.”

The Apple TV+ description of the film reads: “Nawal (Lubna Azabal), a dying Middle Eastern woman living in Montreal, leaves separate letters to her twin children to be read once she passes away. Jeanne (Mélissa Désormeaux-Poulin) is to deliver hers to the father the twins never knew and Simon (Maxim Gaudette) is to give his to the brother they never knew they had.”

“The siblings travel to the Middle East separately, where they each experience acts of brutality, uncover a startling family history and have revelations about themselves.” The film received an Academy Award nomination for Best Foreign Language Film and is listed on IMDb’s Top 250 Best Rated Films of All Time.

Incendies is based on lebanese writer Wajdi Mouawad’s play. Comments on IMDb have flooded the film with praise, with people branding it “incredible,” admitting that it left them “speechless” and that it has a “powerful, gripping plot with great direction and acting.”

Throughout the film, the country is left unnamed but the events that take place are reportedly influenced by the Lebanese Civil War. Incendies won eight Genie Awards and has been met with huge praise from critics and cinemagoers alike.

Since the release of Incendies, director Denis Villeneuve has taken Hollywood by storm and is known for a number of huge blockbuster films. Among his most well-known titles are Arrival, Blade Runner, Dune and Dune: Part Two, both of which are based on the sci-fi novels by Frank Herbert.

His films have reportedly grossed over a whopping $1.8 billion across the world.
