Wheel of Fortune fans were left fuming as one contestant was “robbed” of $40,000 – despite appearing to give the correct answer.
The US game show sees contestants solve various word puzzles, hangman style, after spinning a prize wheel which determines how much is up for grabs. The format also includes crossword puzzles and chances to go bankrupt or lose a turn.
California resident Megan stepped up to the plate this week and was faced with guessing the two word answer for the category of ‘living thing’. Host Pat Sajak showed the puzzle board which read ‘__N_’’_R____’. A few correct letter guesses later and Megan had ‘P_N_’ ‘_RC__D’ to work with.

With only a few seconds left to guess the answer, Megan started blurting things out, before giving her final guess of “pink orchid”, that sounded like “something orchid”. The timer went off revealing the answer to be pink orchid – which left fans fuming.
Host Pat told Megan: “You might have been overthinking a type of orchid, I am sorry that didn’t work out for you.” Megan ended up leaving with just $14,007, while the bonus category would have seen her win an eye-watering $40,000.
Fuming fans took to social media to share their thoughts, with plenty claiming Megan was “robbed” of her prize money. One penned: “Hey Wheel of Fortune, I definitely heard the contestant say ‘pink orchid’ at the beginning of that final puzzle and rewound it to make sure. You owe her some $$$.”
Another echoed: “She said it. We back it up three times. I hope they make it right.” While a third said: “Am I tripping or did she say pink orchid?” While someone else said: “What did she say? It sure sounded like the right answer.”
It comes in stark contrast to an earlier episode of the show, which saw one player lose out on a BMW as she failed to solve an “easy” word puzzle. She was given the letters ‘BAGELS & ___G_N_TS’ in the ‘food and drink’ category – but couldn’t work it out.

She guessed “bagels and beignets” and “bagels and croissants”, but failed to get the right answer which was ‘bagels and doughnuts’. Host Pat tried to comfort her by explaining: “You know a lot of shops have stopped spelling it the proper way, and that’s probably what you were… but there is a UGH up there, I’m sorry.”
Player Tarhea was fuming, stamping her feet and tossing her head back as Pat noticed the car was up for grabs for an entire week, but nobody had managed to win it.
