Apprentice star ‘glad’ they quit and ‘refuses to split business with Lord Sugar’

EXCLUSIVE: A contestant on The Apprentice has admitted they are “glad they don’t have to share 50 per cent of their business’ profits” with Lord Sugar after walking away from the BBC show

One Apprentice contestant is “glad they don’t have to share” their company with Lord Sugar.

In an exclusive chat with Daily Star, former contestant Reece Donnelly opened up about his experience on the BBC show. His time was cut short back in 2023 after he was forced to leave the show due to health reasons.

When asked whether Reece considered leaving The Apprentice as a good thing, Reece cheekily responded: “Listen, I’m so glad I didn’t have to give Lord Sugar 50% of my profits! I’m like: ‘Some could say there’s someone out there looking out for me!’”

“I’m all good! I think people think I have beef with the show. There’s this whole rumour that circulated – there were about ten different rumours that circulated! I was the show’s biggest advocate and still am.”

Donnelly was eager to set the record straight after rumours previously flew about his decision to leave: “Leaving the show early – I think it meant people remembered me more and I think it gave me a kick up the a*** to come back and into a trajectory that maybe I wasn’t going to do. I always just thought in the back of my head: ‘I’m gonna leave that show as Lord Sugar’s business partner’.”

“I never watched the show, so I went into it blind. I was the poster boy, I was the one telling people: ‘You need to do it!’ It changed my life and I’m so thankful.”

Donnelly left before Alan could hire or fire him

Although Reece unfortunately had to leave the process, the former contestant has achieved serious success since his Apprentice stint. The TV star, who was set on being the first Scottish candidate to receive Lord Sugar’s investment, is an entrepreneur, actor, presenter and producer.

He told us: “It took a lot of time to process the fact that I was gone. The business I took on the show was to launch a full time college and university, which is now where I’m sitting! For me it took my business to regional, international, and now we are on an international basis.”

Reece made sure to extend his thanks to the BBC One competition show

Donnelly expressed his gratitude to The Apprentice: “So, I couldn’t thank the show enough for the coverage, the leverage, the credibility it has given me in the business, so I’m just so thankful for it.”
