David Tennant kicked off the 2025 BAFTA Film Awards with a thrilling monologue, but was plagued by technical glitches in scenes that didn’t make it to air.

The actor returned to host the prestigious event for the second time, taking over from Richard E.Grant and Alison Hammond who hosted the awards in 2023.

As he began his opening speech, David’s microphone wire slipped out of his kilt, prompting him to quip to the audience, “We’ll cut that bit out.”

This year’s ceremony saw some of Hollywood’s biggest films vying for a coveted BAFTA award, with early winners including Dune, Wicked and Emilia Perez.

Whoops!

Emilia Perez scooped the BAFTAs for ‘Film Not in the English Language’ and ‘Supporting Actress’, with Zoe Saldaña picking up the gong.

The film’s director Jacques Audiard acknowledged Karla Sofia Gascon, the ‘Best Actress’ nominee whose past Islamophobic, racist and fatphobic tweets had surfaced online, in his acceptance speech.

Jacques expressed his gratitude to the “would like to thank the wonderful talents”, naming “dear Zoe [Saldana]” and “Selena [Gomez]”. He also mentioned Karla, whom he referred to as “dear”.

The much-anticipated ceremony, which honours the best in British cinema, saw a host of A-listers grace the red carpet for an evening of sparkle and splendour, reports the Mirror.

Despite Prince and Princess of Wales missing the event due to a scheduling conflict, celebrities like Jeff Goldblum, Molly-Mae Hague, Pamela Anderson and James Norton graced the occasion in their best attire.

Kylie Jenner made an unexpected appearance at the awards to cheer on her boyfriend Timothée Chalamet, whose blockbuster Dune bagged several awards including BAFTAs for sound and visual effects.

The pair were seen getting cosy as they settled into their seats at the South Bank venue. On another note, Wicked stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo made solo appearances on the red carpet, with Wicked winning the award for production design.

Ariana was pipped to the post for the supporting actress award by Emilia Perez star Zoe Saldaña.
