One Below Deck star’s brutal accident left viewers in total shock.
Deckhand Harry Van Vliet was heard ‘screaming’ for medical help after a nasty jet ski accident almost cost him a finger. The incident occurred while he was straddling a jet ski, attempting to hook it up to bring it back on board at the end of the day.
Captain Jason was then seen ‘breaking the fourth wall’ as he called for production. “Production, we have an issue with Harry on the jet ski at the moment. I’ve got to go around and retrieve him,” he announced.
As Harry began screaming in pain, shouting “hook down”, Captain Jason Chambers rushed to his aid. “Where’s the medic, quick?! I need a towel or something. I f****** crushed my thumb,” Harry was heard yelling as his bloody injuries were displayed – including a missing thumbnail.
Harry then explained that his finger got “crushed” while attaching the cradle on the jet ski. “A wave came up and that finger, that thumb, was in between the cradle and the jet ski. So it was just crushed,” he recounted.
The injury caused concern all round, with the medic warning Harry about the risk of a staph infection from the water, reports the Mirror. The pain worsened, leading to Harry need hospital treatment the next day.
Exclaiming that he’d “never felt like this in his life,” Harry voiced his worries about his future on board, while Captain Jason fretted over finding a new deckhand. As drama unfolded on Below Deck Down Under, fans flocked to X, the platform once known as Twitter, to express their concern.
“Poor Harry on Below Deck Down Under 🙁 He’s like the sweetest crew member too,” wrote one worried viewer. Another chimed in: “Harry, we are pulling for you, honey. We hope you are going to be OK and be able to continue the season because it’s a joy and a pleasure to have you there. You bring a great energy to the crew. I agree with the captain.”
Meanwhile, one baffled fan asked: “Anyone else pick up on the Captain Jason yelled for production INSTEAD of the deck crew when Harry got hurt? Peculiar. #BelowDeckDownUnder”.
