Big Brother star jailed over horror petrol bomb attack ‘freed before Christmas’

Former Big Brother contestant Simone Reed was sentenced to two years and eight months behind bars back in October, but it appears she’s been spotted doing Christmas shopping

A Big Brother star who was jailed over a horror petrol bomb attack has reportedly been released from prison early.

Simone Reed, 37, appeared on Big Brother in 2017 after appearing on The X Factor back in 2014. She was sentenced to 32 months behind bars back in October for her involvement in the pub attack on February 15. However, it seems she has been released from prison just two months later, in time to enjoy Christmas with her family. The TV star was reportedly spotted doing Christmas shopping, holding several large B&M shopping bags this week – in pictures obtained by The Sun.

She also posted on Facebook: “Merry Christmas – back home with my babies. 2026 is going to be our year.”

Reed admitted to assisting an intended arson and was jailed on October 9. According to The Sun, she has now been released on Home Detention Curfew with a tag and an electronically monitored curfew.

A Ministry of Justice spokesperson said: “Anyone released into Home Detention Curfew faces strict licence conditions and must be tagged. Those who break the rules can be returned to prison.”

Reed had driven to a petrol station to buy petrol for a Molotov cocktail used in the attack at the Peggy Junes bar in Redcar, North Yorkshire. Reed and her partner Carl Wild were spotted kissing and hugging at the petrol station, where they also bought bleach and glass bottles before returning to the bar.

The court heard that Wild and Reed had been refused entry to the bar and threatened the owner, saying he would “burn the place down and kill you and your kids”. Police said he set the petrol bomb alight in the street and threw the firebomb at a man’s head.

Shocking CCTV footage saw the victim engulfed in flames and flailing around on the ground. The victim, David Brotton, suffered 20% burns on his body during the attack.

CCTV also showed Wild squirting bleach at the victim before storming inside the bar. The court heard that he squirted more bleach at customers – two other people suffered serious injuries.

Wild admitted causing grievous bodily harm with intent and aggravated burglary. He was jailed for 13 years and six months and told he would serve five years on extended licence.

Judge Francis Laird told Wild it was “a determined act of revenge after you perceived you had been disrespected”.
