The presenter is a mainstay of British television, fronting such popular shows as Strictly Come Dancing and The Traito, but she has had to battle a chronic health condition
TV presenter Claudia Winkleman has opened up about her ongoing battle with a chronic eye condition, myopia. The Strictly Come Dancing host, 53, got real about her struggles during an appearance on Gabby Logan’s ‘The Mid Point’ podcast last December.
Claudia didn’t shy away from detailing the numerous operations she’s undergone, including lens replacement due to severe astigmatism and being “minus 16” in her vision. She revealed to Gabby, 51, the extent of her issues: “I’ve had lens replacement. I’ve had so many operations on my eyes.”
She continued, explaining the complications that arose from correcting her short-sightedness, which now leaves her long-sighted and struggling to read without glasses.
She said: “I had a lens replacement in my left eye because my astigmatism was so bad but I was minus 16, but that was 14 years ago and then I had a little fiddle with but because I was so short sighted by then fixing it I’m now long sighted so I can’t really read anymore. I can with glasses, I’ve got plus 2.5 but I can’t read The Bee Sting with those glasses and that light.”
This isn’t the first time the beloved presenter has courageously spoken about her health; she previously discussed her eye problems more broadly on the How To Fail podcast, reports Surrey Live.

Claudia opened up about her battle with poor eyesight, confessing: “I’ve always had terrible eyesight. Which is going back to the blurriness of the paintings I like and the blurriness of how I really like life to be. I’ve had a couple of operations since then because I was just banging into walls. But now I wear lenses or glasses or whatever.”
Her vision woes have even impacted her TV career. She admitted to The Sun: “I can’t even begin to tell you how blind I am. It’s embarrassing. I can’t read the autocue. My eyes have deteriorated so badly, I’m not meant to drive. I am doing the wrong job.”
Despite these challenges, Claudia remains upbeat and continues to shine on the telly, charming audiences nationwide. Catch her in Graham Norton’s shoes hosting the “Graham Norton Show” tonight at 10.40pm on BBC One, with guests including Hollywood hunk Chris Pratt and funnyman Rob Beckett.
