Dancing On Ice star on why ITV pros will have ‘fewer opportunities’ than Strictly stars

EXCLUSIVE: Dancing On Ice winner and former Strictly star James Jordan has revealed why he thinks the ITV skaters will have less job prospects than Strictly pros after show axe

A Dancing On Ice star has revealed why ITV skating pros will have “few opportunities” than their rivals at Strictly Come Dancing.

James Jordan spoke exclusively to the Daily Star, in collaboration with https://www.skyvegas.com/games/slots, about what may happen to the ITV cast after rumours swirl that it could be coming to an end after they crowned the winner this weekend.

When asked what he thinks the pros could go on to next, he answered: “It’s hard to say what the professionals would do if Dancing on Ice didn’t continue. They won’t be adding more than one professional skater to Strictly.

“Take Mark [Hanretty], for example – if he did Strictly, that would be incredible. But it’s a totally different art form. Yes, he’d have an advantage over someone with no dance experience, but ice skating and dancing are worlds apart.

“It’s tough to predict their next steps, but teaching ice skating could be an option.

“Performing in an ice-skating show is much more demanding than a corporate gig. Ice skating professionals have fewer opportunities compared to dancers, who can perform anywhere.”

After Sam Ashton took the 2025 crown on the weekend, we asked the dancer about what he thought of the results.

James explained: “I’ve always said that the best dancer or ice skater doesn’t always have to win these competitions like Dancing on Ice or Strictly Come Dancing.

“It’s really about who resonates most with the public. Sam [Aston] and Molly [Lanaghan] clearly connected with the audience more than Mark [Hanretty] and Michaela [Strachan], which is why they won, and that was the right decision. Personally, I would have preferred Mark, but that’s just my opinion.”

He added: “What I like is that the public tends to support the person who has shown the most improvement – someone who wasn’t a great skater at the start but has really grown, rather than someone who was already good.

“At the end of the day, it’s not a pure skating competition.

“It’s about who moves you the most. Sometimes, you’ll watch Strictly or Dancing on Ice and think, ‘Technically, this isn’t great, but it’s so entertaining!’

“And that deserves a vote because, ultimately, the goal is to be entertained.

“I’m not that bothered if they’re on the inside or outside edge of their skate, but if they’re performing and entertaining me, I want to see it again. I’d take that over someone who’s a great skater but lacks personality.”
