Dwight Yorke and Peter Andre had a public spat after the Mysterious Girl singer said he wanted to adopt his son Harvey – who, currently at 22, is in intensive care
Dwight Yorke confessed he felt like wringing Peter Andre’s neck when the pop star mentioned adopting his son Harvey Price.
The ex-football player, who is distant from 22-year-old son Harvey from his past romance with Katie Price, has always claimed he adored Harvey ‘from the moment he was born’, despite Katie alleging he “didn’t give a s***” about their child. When the ‘Mysterious Girl’ hitmaker Pete, 51, tied the knot with Katie, 46, he discussed the chance of adopting Harvey – who is currently battling severe obesity. Over time, Katie has pointed fingers at Dwight, 53, for being absent in their son’s life.
Yet, while conceding he might have been more present for Harvey, Dwight has accused the ex-glamour model of limiting his contact in an explosive segment from his memoir.
Writing his thoughts in Born to Score, he expressed how Katie’s comments about his bond with Harvey ‘stuck in his throat’. He wrote: “From the moment I set eyes on the little fella, I have loved my son like I could never ever have imagined possible. I am not going to hear anymore that I did not care for Harvey, or have any understanding of his needs or that I was not interested in his welfare.
“Over the years I have heard Katie saying how [Peter] Andre is Harvey’s dad and what a terrible, uncaring father I have been, all of which sticks in my throat. Maybe if she had not made life so difficult for me, might have been able to take a far more proactive role.”, reports the Mirror.
Katie’s ex Peter had been keen to adopt Harvey, which led to Dwight confessing he felt like he wanted to “throttle” the singer. The model’s past with the footballer was fraught with animosity, with Dwight even demanding a paternity test and only accepting Harvey as his son after the results confirmed it.
In her tell-all book, Katie revealed that Dwight had a change of heart when Harvey turned 10. She penned: “Dwight actually spoke to Harvey over the phone on his tenth birthday. My mum had organised it with his manager. To be honest, I was shocked that it happened.”
She added the encounter took an unexpected turn: “But I think Dwight was even more shocked when Harvey asked him, ‘When am I seeing you?’ The last time I saw Dwight was in 2012, when I met up with him at a restaurant in Alderley Edge, Cheshire, to speak about Harvey and what Harvey had said on the phone.”
Despite the brief reconnection, Katie’s efforts to involve Dwight in their son’s life were fruitless. She recounted: “Even after he said that, I was still trying to be persistent. I wanted Harvey to have his dad in his life, but he just wasn’t interested in any of it. ‘This isn’t about me. This is your son and your flesh and blood.”
Katie lamented the indifference she faced: “But he just didn’t give a s**t. There’s only so much you can try before you realise you’re flogging a dead horse. I got up and left and that’s the last time I saw him. I haven’t heard from him since.”
Peter played a pivotal role in Harvey’s life after tying the knot with his mum, Katie, whom he met on the reality show I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!
At the time, Katie was a single mum to Harvey.
Although Peter never legally adopted Harvey, they shared a strong bond, with Peter considering himself a father figure. He fondly recalled that Katie’s “best boy” even called him ‘Daddy.’
Even after his split from Katie, Peter reportedly stayed close to Harvey for a while. The Aussie star has spoken about feeling like a “real father” to Harvey before having his own children, once stating: “I have been a real father of Harvey and he calls me Daddy.”
