EastEnders star Cheryl Fergison, who played Heather Trott on the BBC One soap for five years until 2012, has been suffering financial woes after her character was killed off
EastEnders star Cheryl Fergison has admitted she’s struggling financially.
The 60-year-old actress played Heather Trott on the BBC soap from 2007 until 2012, when her character was killed by Ben Mitchell. The star recently landed a new job in the BBC comedy series Mandy.
However, she’s admitted she was forced to use a food bank and go on benefits as she couldn’t afford to eat. She’s also sold old EastEnders scripts in a bid to make some money.
Cheryl has now explained she’s “just surviving” and is taking jobs for no money. Speaking with Casino.org via The Sun: “My health is good, but my finances will take a long time to recover.
“Until I have steady work, I’m not rich or comfortable—I’m just surviving. I’ve been saying yes to everything for no money, but I need to start valuing my work and asking for fair pay. Even my agent insists on it.
“Still, I’ll never give in. I want to keep singing. If people criticise me for singing in small restaurants, so be it. At the end of the day, I’m an entertainer. Community has always been important to me, and I’ll perform no matter the crowd.”
She said that she doesn’t care if “only two people show up” as she’s getting paid and will give it everything she’s got. Cheryl insisted that nobody should be judged for trying to “get back on their feet” and added that she’s working her way back up.
It seems like things are looking recently discussed her return to the BBC and other upcoming projects she has. In a TikTok video, she told fans: “I’ve been packing, getting ready for London next week. Going to be doing a little secret project.
“Then, I will be filming for the BBC. And then I will be going to The Groove Chorus, working with the beautiful Groove Chorus at The Clapham Ground on the 21st and 22nd.”
