Betsy Arakawa, 65, believed she and husband Gene Hackman, 95, may have had a stalker in the months leading to their deaths, according to disturbing new bodycam footage. The couple was found dead in their Santa Fe home, with their bodies partially decomposed and mummified.

A number of questions were raised about the circumstances of their deaths. It’s believed Betsy died a week before Gene, who spent his final days alone, hungry and confused due to Alzheimer’s.

Betsy had been “frazzled” around December, according to her hairstylist Christopher. She had told him of two separate occasions in which a man followed the couple.

Christopher told law enforcement that they were concerned. In new footage, obtained by Fox, he revealed all.

“She mentioned to me that there was a man that had been parked outside of their gate and followed them,” he said.

“On two separate occasions. One occasion is when they went to White Rock.

“They went and had lunch there and the guy followed them from parked [outside of their gated community], followed them all the way to White Rock.”

Betsy reportedly shared her surprise over how security “didn’t know how he got there”.

She is said to have added: “When we left, I noticed that this car had followed us from the residence to White Rock.”

According to Christopher, Betsy told him the man had a folder full of pictures of Gene and wanted him to sign them. However she approached him and “told him he needed to have more respect”.

He reportedly returned another day and followed them somewhere else. It’s there that Betsy said he offered them a bottle of wine, but they declined.

Christopher said: “I said, ‘Oh my gosh, Betsy, that’s crazy. You should not have approached this person. This makes me nervous.’

“He knew what [they] drove. That’s the scary part.”

Law enforcement believe that Gene died around February 18 from severe heart disease. Advanced Alzheimer’s disease was also a “significant” contributing factor, they said.

The New Mexico medical investigator’s office said that Betsy died a week earlier from hantavirus pulmonary syndrome – a severe respiratory illness which is caused by contact with infected rodents.
