Holly Willoughby and Bear Grylls have opened up about their time working together on the survival expert’s new Netflix show, Celebrity Bear Hunt
Holly Willoughby appeared to be taken aback by Bear Grylls’ glowing praise for her at the premiere of their new Netflix show, Celebrity Bear Hunt.
The 44-year-old presenter had joined forces with Bear, 50, for the series, which sees 12 celebrities attempt to evade the survival expert in the Costa Rican jungle.
At the red carpet event, Bear lauded Holly, saying: “Holly’s such a key part of this, not only for them, but also for me.”
He added: “You were a light and love and empathy to all of these people, you were the yin to my yang.”
Holly responded with a hint of embarrassment, saying: “Thank you, this is slightly embarrassing,” reports the Mirror.
Bear continued to sing her praises, revealing that Holly had “carried” him through the promotional interviews for the show. According to Closer Magazine, he gushed: “Holly was a dream, I’ve never really worked with anyone else like that before.”
He said: “She’s just gentle, heart led. She was nervous, she was in at the deep end,” and admitted that she had been nervous but had risen to the challenge.
Holly, who previously hosted This Morning, reciprocated the praise, calling Bear “inspiring” and crediting him with helping the celebrities to be “so brave” throughout the challenge. She added: “Bear can get anybody to do anything, you’re very inspiring.”
Reflecting on her own experience, Holly revealed: “There were a few moments on this show where I had to dig deep and have a strong word with myself.
“At those times, it was good to have someone like Bear next to you saying that being brave is about using that fear, harnessing it and doing it anyway,” she added.
Holly not only presented the show but also braved one of Bear’s nail-biting challenges after he cheekily nominated her.
Initially hesitant, Holly shook off her jitters and took a heart-stopping leap from a cliff into the chilly waters below.
Despite her limited appearance on the show, the star reportedly bagged a cool £1million for her stint.
Spilling the beans to Mail Online, a telly source revealed: “Viewers will be surprised just how little she features in the final version of the programme given all the attention there’s been surrounding the show.
“Holly is a huge talent and very popular with viewers, plus she has decades of experience of presenting big TV shows, particularly live TV which requires a level of excellence few presenters have.
“However, in the final cut of Celebrity Bear Hunt, she’s overshadowed by main man Bear, and even gets less airtime than the dozen celebs battling it out.”
