Amy Poehler and Ana Gasteyer have shared their memories of filming Mean Girls together and have remembered a rather memorable plane altercation
Amy Poehler confessed to having a ‘fight’ with a man on a flight for swearing in front of her Mean Girls co-star Ana Gasteyer’s baby.
The 54-year-old comedian faced criticism from the man who took issue with her using foul language in front of Ana, 58, and her husband, Charlie McKittrick’s daughter Frances, who is now 23.
During the latest episode of Amy’s Good Hang podcast, she asked Ana – who portrayed Cady Heron’s (Lindsay Lohan’s) mum Betsy in the 2004 rom-com: “What are your memories about us doing Mean Girls together?”.
Ana, who also has a 17 year old son named Ulysses, responded: “I remember being on the plane with you.”
Grinning, Amy – who played June George, the mother of Regina George (Rachel McAdams) and Kylie George (Nicole Crimi), in ‘Mean Girls’ – replied: “Yeah. We were on the plane, and I got in a fight with a guy.”
Ana then recalled: “Yeah. You got in a fight with a guy. And baby Frances was on the plane with us. Do you remember that?”.
Amy queried: “Your baby Frances, who is now in her 20s. She was on the plane, and I still got in a fight with the guy with the baby around?”.
Ana reminded Amy: “Yeah. I hope so. Because the guy got mad that you were swearing in front of the baby.”
Once the memory clicked into place, Amy remembered: “Yeah. Right. It’s a long story, but what happened was a guy, like a first-class guy – we were in first class too – he was like, ‘Excuse me, I’m trying to … you’re being too loud in first class.’ And my Boston came out.”
Ana praised the argument as “the best thing I’ve ever seen”.
The pair also recalled spending time with 55 year old comedian and actress Tina Fey – who penned Mean Girls – whilst she was crafting the screenplay. The film was adapted from the non-fiction book Queen Bees and Wannabes by 56 year old writer Rosalind Wiseman.
