Actor James Buckley has confessed he needs a very specific boozy drink before he feels ready to record his weekly podcast with his wife Clair – even before midday
Actor James Buckley has confessed that his first meal of the day is regularly a pint of Stella – drunk before midday.
The 37-year-old, who played vulgar loud mouthed show-off Jay on the hit Channel 4 comedy The Inbetweeners and now rakes in £10k a week and hinted a comeback for the show could be on the cards, said he needs the lager to fuel recording his weekly podcast. The dad-of-two then finishes the day off with his only meal – vindaloo curry sauce on chips – eaten on the sofa in front of the TV.
Buckley thinks he won’t make it to 60, as he regularly eats takeaways or frozen food like “smiley faces” and “potato waffles”. He also thinks he should have gout because of his eating habits.
Once a week, Buckley hosts a podcast with his wife Clair which he claims is the reason he drinks beer before midday.
He told the What Did You Do Yesterday? podcast: “We get to the studio, first things first, my pre-podcast record prep is that I need to have a beer. We’re still not midday yet.
“Our rider is specifically Stella unfiltered. The 660ml bottle, which is a big old bottle.
“And that just helps me, I don’t know, relax I suppose, or talk b******* I suppose. It’s b******* fuel. Yeah, so it goes on an empty stomach.”
He and his wife also drink during the podcast recording – he said “Why the hell not?” – and he doesn’t eat until they get back home at dinner time.
“I think if you’re busy doing stuff, you don’t really realise it,” he said. Buckley added he wouldn’t drink more than two Stellas before this point.
He continued: “Because doing the podcast is genuinely a really big effort for me and my wife, because we need to pretend like we’ve got some kind of energy or that we give a s*** about anything, so on a Thursday we have a curry. We have a Thursday night curry, that’s what we look forward to.”
Buckley has vindaloo sauce on chips for his main, with sides of garlic naan, onion bhajis and poppadoms.
He said: “I go with a vindaloo sauce, nothing in it. Just the sauce. Like a sort of vindaloo milkshake, yeah.
“I pour that over chips, I get chips instead of rice, I just think rice is boring. I’m dribbling, I’m starting to sort of salivate. And a tandoori king prawn.
“I have a bed of chips, prawn on top, vindaloo drizzled all over that.”
Buckley will also have a drink with his dinner, though he didn’t specify what his evening tipple would be.
He said of his other evening meals: “If it’s not an Indian takeaway or something like that, my favourite meals are cooked in the oven, and by that I mean they’re frozen first, beforehand. Like I love a turkey drummer and some potato waffles and things.
“I still eat like that which is terrible, I’m not gonna make it to 60, am I? I definitely should have gout, yeah, because I’ll have sausage, beans and smiley faces and I’ll wash that down with pork.”
