Malcolm in the Middle Disney reboot details from cast to Frankie Muniz’s surprising verdict

Malcolm in the Middle is reuniting for a four-episode limited run

The beloved sitcom Malcolm in the Middle is set for a reboot, with confirmation coming last year. Here’s all we know so far about the upcoming series, including lead star Frankie Muniz’s thoughts.

Disney+ confirmed in December last year that Malcolm in the Middle would be returning for a four-episode limited run, sharing a hilarious video of Muniz, 39, alongside his onscreen parents Bryan Cranston and Jane Kaczmarek.

The reboot has been a decade in the making, with Muniz and co-star Cranston, 68, working to make it a reality.

Breaking Bad legend and Emmy-winning star Cranston is also taking on writing duties for the new episodes. The fresh instalments will catch up with Malcolm and his chaotic family.

While there’s no release date yet, it’s hoped the show could hit screens this year, marking the 25th anniversary of the series. Confirmed cast members include Muniz, Cranston as immature dad Hal, and Kaczmarek, 69, reprising her role as ever-suffering mother Lois.

Malcolm in the Middle is considered one of the greatest sitcoms of all time

Muniz hinted at some new characters, revealing to People that he had done some chemistry reads, but kept further details under wraps. Original main cast members included Christopher Kennedy Masterson as Francis, Justin Berfield as Reese, and Erik Per Sullivan as Dewey, reports the Mirror US.

Former child star and now racing driver Muniz recently opened up about revisiting the 2000s kids show that catapulted him to fame, making a surprising admission.

Frankie Muniz will be back as Malcolm in a series of episodes

Chatting about a nostalgic trip down memory lane, the star confessed during an interview that he and his wife, model Paige Price, were re-watching the classic series when she pointed out how he was just like the character he played. Flabbergasted, Muniz exclaimed how his onscreen persona Malcolm “sucked” and labelled him “the worst character” of the show.

Malcolm in the Middle, which aired for seven cracking seasons from 2000 to 2006 and rolled out a whopping 151 episodes, followed the exploits of a young genius trying to manage life with a sky-high IQ and a lovably off-the-wall family. Fondly remembered as one of telly’s finest comedies, the show bagged itself seven Emmys and snagged nominations for seven Golden Globe Awards during its storied tenure on the box.
