Martin Kemp is no stranger to spooky visitors, but one of his ghost stories left Daisy May Cooper in stitches, with her branding it ‘the most mad thing’ she’d ever heard
Martin Kemp mistook a ghost for an extra on a film set and asked it what time lunch was.
He’s not the only EastEnders legend to have a spooky encounter though, as one was “pushed down the stairs” by the ghost of a murderer. And Stateside, it’s reported that visitors at Graceland feel Elvis Presley’s “presence” around them.
The EastEnders star approached what he thought was a fellow cast member playing a 16th Century maid. But the extra was a spook, according to This Country star Daisy May Cooper.
The maid did not reply – before mysteriously disappearing.
Daisy, 38, told Alan Carr’s Life’s a Beach podcast: “Can I just tell you Martin Kemp’s ghost story that he told me? Because this is the most mad thing I’ve ever heard.
“He said that he was filming something in like a Tudor sort of manor house somewhere and he was sort of waiting around between takes, and this 16th Century maid started walking towards him.
“And he said to her, thinking it was just an extra for the show, said, ‘Do you know what time lunch is?’ And she looked at him and disappeared.
“Can you imagine being in the 16th Century and seeing Martin Kemp asking you what time lunch is? The image of that.
“It’s just my favourite ghost story of all time. So simple.”
Kemp, 63, is not spooked by spooks. He has told how a “friendly ghost” named Len – who has visited him several times – once saved his life after whispering a warning in his ear to stop him from getting hit by a car.
The actor said: “One morning I left the house thinking about the day ahead when I heard a voice in my ear as if someone was talking to me. It was a voice talking to me directly, as though they needed to tell me something really important. It was a man’s voice, clear and deep.
“The voice seemed to speak slowly as if it wanted to make sure I wasn’t going to be scared. It simply said, ‘Go back inside the house.’
“I started to walk back towards the front door, trying to make sense of what had happened, when I heard an almighty bang. A Ford Cortina had careered into the space between two cars parked in the road – the exact space I would have been standing if I hadn’t heard the voice.”
