Veteran actor Peter Navy Tuiasosopo has passed away at 61, his son has announced.
Tuiasosopo, known for his roles in films like Street Fighter and Fast and the Furious, died early on Monday morning.
His son, Manoah Peter Tuiasosopo, shared the news on Facebook, saying: “With a heavy heart, my family and I want to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers. Our father Peter N. Tuiasosopo passed away this morning at 3:16am.”
“My dad lived an amazing life and in no way does his impact stop here. We will continue to live with him in spirit, and as saddened as we are, he is without a doubt in Heaven with his brothers, sisters, parents, daughter, and Jesus, and no longer in pain.”
Manoah added: “His strength, love, compassion, and kindness will forever be felt.”
According to TMZ, Peter died in Phoenix, Arizona due to heart complications. Peter Navy Tuiasosopo started his acting career in 1991 and quickly built an impressive resume, including roles in the 2021 Magnum PI reboot, Mayans MC, New Girl, Black-ish, Ray Donovan, and NCIS.
He is perhaps best known for his role as E-Honda in the 1994 film Street Fighter, alongside Jean Claude Van Damme, Kylie Minogue, Ming-Na Wen, and Raul Julia.
In addition to his famous role, he was featured in a slew of Hollywood hits like Fast and the Furious, Charlie’s Angels, The Scorpion King, BASEketball, and Austin Powers: Goldmember.
Not just shining on screen, Peter became an icon of change, earning his stripes as one of the most recognisable Polynesian actors in recent times. His funeral plans are still under wraps, but the family’s brewing up a bash to celebrate his life soon.
On social media, his fans have started sharing their grief.
One fan wrote: “Very sad. Forever remember him in BaseketBall.” While another chimed in with: “I didn’t even know he was sick.”
A third shared their sorrow: “I’m so sorry for your loss. Sending love, thoughts, and prayers to you and your family during this difficult time.”
And a fourth offered condolences: “I’m so sorry for your loss manoah my condolences to you and your beautiful family your dad was an amazing man! Sending lots of love and hugs! ” Others kept it short but heartfelt with a stream of “Rest in peace” tributes for the beloved actor.
