Ozzy Osbourne medics ‘flew in on helicopter and battled for two hours’ to save rocker

Air ambulance paramedics reportedly spent around two hours trying to save Ozzy Osbourne’s life.

The rock legend sadly died on Tuesday (July 22) at the age of 76, just weeks after his final show with Black Sabbath at Villa Park in Birmingham. His wife Sharon Osbourne and children announced his passing in a heartbreaking joint statement.

They said: “It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning. He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time. Sharon, Jack, Kelly, Aimee and Louis.”

It’s now reported an air ambulance landed in a field close to Ozzy’s mansion in the UK at around 10:30am on Tuesday, in order to treat Ozzy. They tried and failed to resuscitate the heavy metal star.

A local resident said they became alarmed after seeing the helicopter fly over the quiet village and land close to Ozzy and Sharon’s home. They told the MailOnline: “All of us were talking about it and wondering what had happened.

“We immediately feared it may be for him as he was known to be in fragile health. When we heard later that night that he had died it confirmed our worst fears.”

A spokesperson for Thames Valley Air Ambulance confirmed they had assisted in providing “critical care”. They said: “We can confirm that our helicopter was dispatched to provide advanced critical care at an incident near Chalfont St Giles yesterday.”

The chopper took off from RAF Benson in Oxfordshire, close to Ozzy’s home in Valfont St Giles, Buckinghamshire. It’s said that the medics were in the air for just 15 minutes before they reached Ozzy, and spent around two hours attempting to save his life.

Thames Valley Air Ambulance cover Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire and often reaches the the patient in just 15 minutes. The bright red chopper, the Mirror reports, is often used for those needing the most critical care, such as heart attacks, strokes and traffic accidents.

Ozzy’s cause of death is not currently known, but he battled ill health for several years and had undergone multiple surgeries. He had also been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and was bound to a wheelchair.

His heartbreaking death came just days after he performed his final concert at Back To The Beginning in his beloved hometown, Birmingham. His sisters found out about his death via phone call hours before the Osbourne family issued their statement.

Speaking from her sister Gillian’s house, Ozzy’s sister, Jean, said the last time she saw her brother, she found it “upsetting.” She told the Mirror: “We saw him in Birmingham the other week when he and the rest of the band were given the freedom of the city.

“It was upsetting because he could not stand up straight, but he was still our John, still cracking the jokes. To us, he was our brother, not a celebrity, so it’s crazy to see the outpouring of love since his death was announced. We just can’t believe he is gone, and we won’t be getting another phone call or text from him. Every week without fail, he would get in touch, either by phone or text, to ask how we were all doing and what was going on.”

Jean explained her brother had been “frail”, but she was still shocked by his passing. “We don’t know the details of his death; it’s still too early. It’s just so sad. I’m just thankful he died in England,” she added.
