Katie Thurston, who starred in season 17 of The Bachelorette and got engaged to comedian Jeff Arcuri in September, shared the heartbreaking news with her fans on social media

A star of reality dating show The Bachelorette revealed her heartbreaking news to fans

Reality TV icon Katie Thurston courageously disclosed that she has been diagnosed with breast cancer in a devastating ‘life update’.

The 34-year old-ex-Bachelorette, who became engaged to comic Jeff Arcuri last September, took to social media to share the heart-wrenching update with her followers.

Instead of a typical Valentine’s Day celebration with her beau, Katie, from the US, spent it organising her treatment plan. Posting on Instagram, Katie penned: “Life update: I have breast cancer.

“Yesterday I saw all the couples post their Valentine’s Day celebrations. I felt envious if I’m being honest. Jeff took me to Hawaii and after, we were going to travel the world before planting roots together in NYC finally. But instead, my V-Day was spent coordinating a place to live as I have to go back to LA for more testing and treatment.”

Having won over many hearts on The Bachelorette, Katie has been on an emotional rollercoaster since her diagnosis but is set on using her voice to spread awareness and gear up for the battle against cancer.

She added: “I experienced a range of emotions over the past two weeks. Despair. Anger. Sadness. Denial. And then strength. Purposeful. Ready. I cried a lot. I tried to even make a video instead of this post and couldn’t.”

In her moving note, the brave star shared how she draws solace from others who have faced similar health battles, reports OK!.

In her courageous disclosure, a young woman detailed the early initiative she took after her breast cancer diagnosis.

She sought out stories of others who had been through similar trials: “But one thing I did early on was search other stories like mine. Other young women with breast cancer. Invasive ductal carcinoma. Mastectomy. Pregnancy after breast cancer.”

With determination, she added: “All of their stories helped. So I intend to be the same for others. This is day one of sharing and is going to be a long one. This first step of acceptance of my reality was the hardest.

Set for a big move from California to New York, Katie is prepping for the relocation with her fiancé, the comedian Jeff, who popped the question in 2024 following several months of dating.
