Ozzy Osbourne died at the age of 76 just weeks after his final performance with Black Sabbath, but behind the scenes Sharon was working tirelessly to make it happen
Doting wife Sharon Osbourne’s final act of love for husband Ozzy Osbourne has been revealed following his death at 76. The Prince of Darkness performed one final time with Black Sabbath in a homecoming charity gig on July 5. But it’s been revealed that Sharon had to come up with a deal to even make it happen.
During the gig, Ozzy, who was living with Parkinson’s disease, performed sat down in a giant bat throne. Of course, one of his most iconic moments is biting the head off a bat on stage.
But Sharon had to go through a difficult battle with insurers to make sure the Back To The Beginning benefit, which raised £140million for charity, could go ahead.
The 72-year-old finally managed it, however according to reports Ozzy was left upset by it. He had been training to stand on stage and perform, however the deal meant he would have to sit down.
A source told Daily Mail: “It’s likely the show would have been cancelled had he not appeared on a throne.
“Sharon and her promoters were dealing with the insurance company, who were holding back on covering the costs of the show – if he tried to walk or stand.”
It’s understood that if Ozzy had fallen on stage, the insurance pay out would have been astronomical and probably uninsurable in the first place.
It’s said Ozzy was unable to complete a “standard medical” that musicians go through before tour insurance can go through due to his walking issues and Parkinson’s.
The source added: “To overcome that – and not have a huge insurance premium on a charity show – [Sharon] secured an unusual deal to have him sit in his throne.”
Ozzy spoke of his preparation for the Villa Park gig on Sirius XM, revealing he had a live-in trainer.
He said: “I have got this guy who’s virtually living with me and I am in bed by seven. I used to have to take a handful of f****** sleeping pills. Now I don’t take anything.
“I am having my blood pressure taken 15 times a day. I’ve got this f******device on my finger. It’s a monitor to say how my heart rate is.”
Ozzy and Sharon’s Buckinghamshire home had been kitted out to help him, with a spa pool, wet room and health and wellness suite.
Tragically, his death was announced on July 22 in a touching family statement from wife Sharon, and children Jack, Kelly, Aimee and Louis.
