Happy Mondays frontman Shaun Ryder has revealed he would love to join ITV’s Coronation Street and would love to have a couple of pints in the infamous Rovers Return
Shaun Ryder is desperate for a cameo role on Coronation Street as it’s the Celebrity Gogglebox star’s favourite show.
The Happy Mondays frontman has swapped drug addiction for being hooked on the top soap instead, which follows more news from the ITV soap.
Shaun, 62, said: “If they ever asked me to do a quick walk-on part in Coronation Street, I’d definitely be up for that – a pint or two in the Rovers Return.
“I do like to grab an hour when I can catch up on the news and watch some of the old Coronation Street episodes. Corrie is definitely my go-to soap. I’m good pals with Andy Whyment, who plays Kirk.
“I’m 20 years older than him, but we went to the same junior school, the same secondary school, and grew up round the corner from each other. In fact, his mam lives near to where mine has moved back to.”
Shaun joked that he might ask his pal Andy to “have a word” with producers but it wouldn’t be his first foray into telly roles.
As well as being a firm favourite on Celebrity Gogglebox with band pal Bez, he has appeared on other reality shows like I’m A Celebrity.
He said: “If I can go on a show where I’ve just got to sit there and eat a f***ing cow’s tit I’m absolutely fine with all that. I’d really have loved to be an actor, but I could never remember lines and things like that.
“I get asked to do stuff now, and I enjoy the bits and pieces, but I can’t doo anything with a script that entails too much detail because of the way my ADHD brain is wired up.
“Maybe I could have been an evil henchman in a James Bond film or something like that?”
