Netflix’s newest thriller, a wild movie with a crazy plot that’s been met with rave reviews from its audience, is available to watch on the streaming platform now
Netflix’s newest thriller has audiences hooked.
The streamer dropped a South Korean series titled Revelations that’s got everyone buzzing, and it’s already racking up top marks from viewers. The show made a splash when it premiered on March 21, quickly amassing a legion of fans.
Helmed by Yeon Sang-ho, famed for his hit zombie movie Train to Busan, this new series weaves a gripping story as two characters with opposing views tackle a chilling missing person case.
Netflix teases the plot with: “A pastor who believes in divine revelation and a detective haunted by visions pursue a missing person case – exposing their own demons in the process.”
Given Netflix’s knack for catapulting K-dramas and Korean films to global stardom – just look at Squid Game’s success – they’re likely banking on this edgy Korean drama to be another winner.
One IMDb user was so impressed, they claimed Revelations is “better than most Hollywood offerings,” reports the Daily Record.
The fan explained: “The story takes many twists and turns and lines between good and bad are blurred, which of course is far more to how life actually is than most of Hollywood’s superhero style movies.
“The acting is superb, they put western actors to shame [and] I cried at the end.”
Letterboxd film buffs are also raving, with one user gushing: “While it does not reach the level of Oldboy, Parasite, or Train to Busan, it is still a very good thriller that kept me hooked the entire time!”
They added: “The story was well-crafted, following the Korean tradition of incorporating many crazy twists and emotional dilemmas, all while delivering some thrilling scenes and asking how far people will go in the name of their religion.”
Another thrilled reviewer on the site exclaimed: “A chilling South Korean crime thriller full of dark twists and clever turns. It’s easily one of the year’s finest films. Yeon Sang-ho’s direction delivers disturbing crimes in abundance.”
They also said: “Revelations is like The Wailing, Zodiac, Memories of Murder, Prisoners, I Saw the Devil, The Call, and Officer Black Belt all rolled into one sick film.”
Ryu Jun-yeol’s portrayal as pastor Sung Min-chan earned him credit from fans for being totally “unhinged” in the role, while Shin Hyun-been was praised for her “compelling” role as the “pretty and determined Detective Yeon-hee”.
Fans wrote : “In all, Revelations is a gripping 122 minutes that doesn’t waste a minute as the story gets increasingly complex.” Another viewer shared their excitement: “The movie was longer than I expected it to be, but not in a draggy way.”
Reflecting on the wild ride, they couldn’t hide their excitement: “This was absolutely incredible. Every time I thought ‘OK maybe now it’s over’ there was still 20 minutes left. And damn, what a satisfying ending. Really one of the craziest movies I’ve seen in a long time.”
Thriller enthusiasts are being urged to not miss out on this mind-bending South Korean flick that’s been causing quite the stir.
