Infamous Brit bar owner Wayne was taken to hospital at the beginning of November after contracting a dangerous disease, but has since come out — and could not be happier
Wayne Lineker has left hospital after “seven weeks of pure hell” that left him battling two severe conditions. The star has taken to social media to thank those who had reached out and given support, and confirmed he was now resting up at home.
Wayne, 63, was thrilled as he finally said goodbye to the staff at Basildon & Thurrock University Hospital after he was discharged. He was admitted at the beginning of November, and had to stay in hospital over Christmas in a horrific fight for his health.
Now resting up at home, Wayne revealed just how bad his battle was to keep himself going. He tried to keep his spirits high, however, during the festive period, spending time with the nurses who were treating him on Christmas Day itself.
According to the Daily Mail, Wayne had gone into the hospital to be treated for two severe bouts of pneumonia. The infection attacks the lungs and the overall respiratory system, and can be fatal if the patient is already classed as being vulnerable.
Taking to his social media, Wayne was all smiles as his trademark upbeat look came out in a new snap. Punching the air whilst wearing an orange tracksuit top, along with trainers and sweatpants, the influencer said he was thrilled to be home.
“I am free,” Wayne penned in the caption of the photo. “Can’t even explain how happy I am to be fully recovered and out of hospital after seven weeks of pure hell.
“It took all my courage and fight to get over this deadly infection… pneumonia,” he added. He also shared a couple of extra snaps from his time in hospital, including one where the star was grimacing at the camera after being bedbound for weeks on end.
Daughter Tia was one of the first people to welcome the legend back home, taking to the comments section to write: “You are so strong, can’t wait to snuggle you.” Wayne himself soon replied: “Love you.”
Ibiza beach club owner Wayne revealed that he had first fallen ill with the condition back in November. While he was trying to deal with the virus, things soon took a turn for the worse and he had to be brought into the hospital to be looked at by doctors at the beginning of December.
Wayne, brother of ex-Match of the Day star Gary, was forced to miss out on his family’s Christmas celebrations. But despite missing out on some precious family memories, he was determined not to let that get him down, as he shared his health updates with fans.
Taking to his Instagram on the big day (December 25), he shared a photo surrounded by nurses who were looking after him. Donning a festive red and white pyjama set, Wayne sported a fluffy Santa hat whilst he was surrounded by those who were treating patients on the ward.
He thanked his nurses and reassured fans he was still involved in all his family shenanigans. “Merry Christmas everyone love from me and all the girls at the Bursted ward [at] Bassildon Hospital,” he wrote, “Christmas tunes are on!! Been video calling my family too.”
Just one day after the heartwarming photo, Wayne was given the all-clear and was allowed to go home having beaten pneumonia. He will, however, have to complete a course of anti-biotics before he can officially go back to normal life.
