BBC Breakfast's Bill Turnbull says he's 'very calm' about fatal cancer diagnosis

BBC breakfast presenter Bill Turnbull, who has incurable prostate cancer, has revealed he feels “very calm” about dying.

The 64-year-old BBC Breakfast presenter’s world was turned upside down in 2017 when he was hit with the unexpected cancer diagnosis

Bill has since confirmed that he has been told by doctors nothing can be done to save him after his cancer penetrated his bones.

Despite this Bill has now revealed he isn’t worried about his death after having time to reflect about it.

Bill told The Mirror : “I’ve thought a great deal about death since I was diagnosed with cancer because he’s there, y’know – the fella with the hood over his head and the scythe. He’s waiting, and that’s fine.

“I’ve developed quite a healthy relationship with death, I feel very, very calm about it because I’ve given it a lot of thought.

“There’s no way I’m going to imagine I can live forever, nor would I really want to.”

He has undergone nine rounds of chemo and and hormone treatment which has left him suffering nasty mood swings.

He has also been having injections of a tumour-busting radioactive substance, Radium 223.

Bill hit telly screens again this year to front BBC breakfast with Susanna Reid when they fronted BBC breakfast. – six years after they last fronted the show together.

In February Bill gave an update on his health this morning on GMB.

Bill replied: “I’m feeling pretty good still getting treatment for the moment but things are going okay.”

After telling the panel he was “excited” to be back working with Susanna and it “felt like home”, his former BBC Breakfast co-host asked how his health is.

Bill, 64, is patron of the Anne Robson Trust, which supports hospital patients in the last days of life.
