Sonia left Coronation Street in 2017 after playing Mel Maguire, one of the antagonists in Bethany Platt’s grooming storyline.
Mel kidnapped Bethany, played by Lucy Fallon, to stop her testifying against her disgusting groomer Nathan Curtis in court.
Her character appeared first on Boxing Day in 2016 and was an assistant at Supreme Tanning and was a big part in Nathan’s grooming of Bethany.
When Nathan encouraged Bethany to make online beauty videos, he told Mel to heap praise on her from anonymous accounts which would make her want to keep going.
And while the character’s appearances appeared innocent at first, it soon became clear that Mel was involved in something much darker.
It was revealed that she was Nathan’s first grooming victim and had felt the brunt force from him when Bethany refused his orders.
At the time of her exit, Sonia said: “It’s been an amazing time, it’s been great to work here.”
Coronation Street currently airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm on ITV
