Kate Garraway revealed she has received nasty messages from online trolls since her husband Derek Draper fell ill earlier this year.
Speaking on Good Morning Britain today, the 53-year-old presenter explained certain trolls accused her of “not worrying” about her beloved husband as she returned to work.
Kate took several months off work, but returned to GMB back in July after accepting doctors’ advice to create a normal routine for her family.
Dad-of-two Derek was admitted to hospital with coronavirus back in March, and though he no longer has the virus, it has wreaked havoc on his internal organs.
However, the hardworking mum-of-two confessed her appearances on television have spurred certain trolls to send unwanted comments online.
The subject came up ahead of an interview with NHS paramedic Laura Heath, who was trolled back in March when she shared a selfie in her work uniform.
Vile trolls targeted the NHS worker after noticing she was wearing makeup while working, cruelly slamming her “time-consuming made-up look”.
Kate admitted she had met similar criticism, saying: “We talked about this with me doing this show, if we’re having a laugh and a joke in the morning because that’s our job, to cheer everybody ups ruin a pandemic.
“People then say ‘hang on, does that mean you’re not worried about Derek or you’re not sad about it?’”
The beloved ITV star added that trolls struggled with “understanding that we’re all human and the most important thing is we have to smile.”
Her co-presenter Adil Ray agreed wholeheartedly, saying: “Even if you were to think that, then that doesn’t warrant abuse.”

Making it clear she didn’t approve of online trolls, Kate finished by saying: “It’s brutal.”
Earlier on the show, the former I’m A Celeb star opened up about her recent absence, having missed the Monday and Tuesday instalments of GMB.
Kate explained she had taken the beginning of the week off work to celebrate her husband Derek Draper’s birthday, as he remains in hospital.
She said: “It was Derek’s birthday on Saturday as well, which was obviously a challenging one, due to the circumstances. We managed to FaceTime him and sing happy birthday. We had a cake. Which we had on FaceTime, and you know…”
Adil replied: “That must have been quite difficult for the kids.”
Kate went on: “It’s very challenging they’re doing brilliantly with it though. We just though for us, and we did it with Derek’s family as well. We managed to technically hook up and hope that the love seeps through.”
Reaching out to Charlotte Hawkins, who filled in for her on the show, she added: “Thanks to Charlotte for swapping with me. Charlotte brought me a rose bush. Which is named the rose of hope. It actually came into flower on Saturday, which is Derek’s birthday.”
Good Morning Britain airs on weekdays at 6am on ITV
