Corrie viewers left baffled as they spot major football blunder on ITV soap

Coronation Street viewers were quick to point out a football blunder during Monday’s episode.

Sean Tully was in the Rovers Return telling Ryan Connor about his plans to take his son to watch the football.

He wanted to take his son Dylan to a Weatherfield County match, but he said the tickets were sold out.

However, fans were baffled as they pointed out that fans aren’t currently allowed to watch football matches in the grounds due to lockdown restrictions.

As Coronation Street has included the coronavirus pandemic in their storylines, fans thought this was confusing.

One said: “What makes Weatherfield County so so special that they are allowed to have fans back in the ground?”

While another wrote: “How come Sean’s talking about taking his son to a Football match when no one is going to football matches?”

“#Corrie A football match sold out during lockdown??”, questioned a third.

While a fourth added: “Isn’t football supposed to be still behind closed doors? Surely they can’t go and watch Weathy County.”

Sean actor Antony Cotton made headlines recently after he called on the soap’s bosses to bring back the laughs on Corrie.

He revealed he believes there are too many serious issue-led plots and wants to see more of the comedy that people loved the soap for years ago.

He said: “We used to do stories when I first joined the show in 2003 that were belly-laugh brilliant.

“They weren’t based on any agenda or issue. I don’t want to do an agenda storyline where we think about the rights and wrongs of something.”

Coronation Street continues Wednesday at 7.30pm on ITV.
