Beat The Chasers' Bradley Walsh devastated as 'unlucky' student loses £100,000

Bradley Walsh was visibly upset when contestant Rahim lost out on the £100,000 jackpot during Sunday’s Beat The Chasers series debut.

The young student was a strong contender in the competition, bowling Bradley over in the opening scenes when he revealed he’d earned 13 GCSEs.

Later, the pair shared a sweet moment when Rahim went to gamble for the £100,000 prize pot, saying: “I’m not losing anything and I got to meet you.”

Bradley looked moved by the remark, as all five of the Chasers collectively made a murmur of appreciation.

The flattered host replied: “More importantly, I got to meet you.”

Rahim confessed he hoped to earn enough cash to fund a trip to Seychelles, to travel to where his extended family lives with his mum.

He said: “I’m only here once, so I think I’m going to take the five.”

Rahim was then forced to answer a quickfire round of questions against the clock, as all five Chasers churned out answer after answer.

Nervous for the young student, Brad said: “I wish you well, I want you to do great.”

Rahim was one question away from winning the £100,000 prize

Rahim put on an incredible performance, and almost beat all of the Chasers – but the clock was against him.

He failed to win the £100,000 with just seconds to spare, leaving Brad, and viewers at home, devastated.

The Chasers were impressed by Rahim’s performance, as Paul Sinha exclaimed: “That was unbelievable!”

He added: “Clearly his brain is unbelievably speedy.”

Bradley predicted Rahim would be one of the Chasers in a matter of time, amazed to have witnessed the breadth of his general knowledge.

He said: “One day in the not so distant future we’ll have you sitting up there!”

Meanwhile, viewers at home took to Twitter to commiserate, branding Rahim as “unlucky” while praising his performance.

One said: “I almost want him to have a participatory prize he was that good!”

“That was hard to watch, gutted for him,” added a second.

“Wowsers! That was so unlucky for that kid! One answer away from £100k,” wrote a third.

Beat The Chasers continues tomorrow evening at 9pm on ITV.
