A Place in the Sun presenter Laura Hamilton was challenged in Fuerteventura while trying to find Sarah and Simon a home – with one of the properties getting the verdict of a blunt “no”.
In Monday’s episode of the Channel 4 show, that first aired in 2020, Laura had a budget of £200,000 to work with as she explored the options in the Spanish Canary Island.
The couple said they wanted the property to be enjoyed by the whole family and high in their list of priorities was outdoor space and a view of the sea.
Unfortunately, the search was incredibly tough and three properties in Laura still didn’t have a single contender.
And it was while visiting property three, a three-bed apartment in Central Corralejo, that things got a bit tense when Laura asked for feedback.
Sarah said: “The apartment is fine. I am disappointed with the lack of terrace or balcony area and a view.
“That would just be what I would like.”
Laura hit back and said she had made it “very clear” it would be hard to deliver on the couple’s tight budget.
Simon said he was willing to make compromises but nothing had been good enough so far.
He and Sarah then admitted the bedroom was nice and large.
“Could this be your holiday home?” asked Laura.
“No,” said Sarah, making Laura burst out laughing.
Sarah continued: “It is lovely it’s just there is no outside space.”
Laura decided to show two final properties that were well above the couple’s budget in the hope of finding something they at least liked.
The next property was a two-bed villa in Bella Vista valued at £241,228 and featuring a roof terrace with sea views and a garden.
For the fifth and final one, Laura took them to a three-bed townhouse in Corralejo South which also had a terrace and sea views and was on the market for £234,210.
Simon and Sarah set their hearts on property number four but could only make an offer of £190,000 due to their restrictive budget.
Laura warned it was a “low” offer and was not surprised when the agent told her it was not enough.
The couple said they would leave the offer on the table and go home and have a rethink of their situation.
