The family of tragic actor Michael K Williams fear he may have been murdered.
The 54-year-old star, who played Omar Little in HBO’s The Wire, was found dead from a suspected heroin overdose.
A police source said: “No foul play’s indicated. No forced entry and the apartment’s in order.”
But Staci DuPont, who is married to the nephew who found his body, said his loved ones do not believe the death was drug related.
She revealed: “That’s not factual. He was a wonderful, beautiful, loving person.
“It’s a great loss to us. We do not have anything more to say at this time.”
Another of his nephews, Arvance Williams, said his uncle – who leaves a grown-up son Elijah – had been thrilled about attending the Emmys awards show in a fortnight, where he is nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his role in last year’s drama Lovecraft Country.
He said: “I just bought him some fabric so he can go to the Emmys to put under his blazer.
“He just got nominated for an Emmy and he was going to LA, so he was real excited about it.”
The actor, who also starred as “Chalky” White in Boardwalk Empire, was found dead at his apartment in New York.
A spokesman for HBO said: “While the world is aware of his immense talents as an artist, we knew Michael as a dear friend who was beloved by all.
“We send our deepest condolences to his family for this huge loss.”
Michael spent his childhood in the projects surrounded by drugs and violence.
He was open about his struggles with drug addiction and had been in and out of treatment clinics since age 19.
He admitted he was on drugs while filming the third series of The Wire and was high on cocaine when he met ex-US President Barack Obama.
He said: “Hearing my name come out of his mouth woke me up.
“I was in jeopardy of destroying everything I had worked so hard for.”
