I’m a Celeb star Christopher Biggins had open heart surgery and feels like ‘bionic man’

Pantomime legend and TV star Christopher Biggins has undergone open heart surgery and had a new valve inserted into his heart following a recent health scare.

The star admitted he now feels like the “bionic man” after also undergoing an operation to have a new knee fitted.

Speaking to The Sun, the I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here star admitted: “I’m like the bionic man. I’ve had a new knee put in and I’ve had a new valve put into my heart.

“It’s not easy getting old.”

The star was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes back in 2010, and admitted he has always been “aware” of his weight, which pushed him to look into dieting.

The icon also reflected on the grim reality of ageing as he said: “As you get older, the things you go to – apart from restaurants and theatres – are funerals and memorial services.

“It makes you aware that life is very shallow. It’s not easy. You never know when you’re going to go.”

The former King of the Jungle has undergone his fair share of loss over the years, recently attending the funeral of his close friend and EastEnders legend Dame Barbara Windsor, who passed away in December 2020.

She and Christopher had shared an iconic 40-year friendship, and the panto dame was able to be in the limited number of attendees for her service.

Christopher has recently been unafraid to air his thoughts on the latest series of I’m a Celeb – and admittedly wasn’t very impressed with the setting of the 2020 series – which will make a return for 2021, as he said of Gwyrch Castle in North Wales: “There was too much space. The enclosed thing creates a lot of problems. People react strangely to it.”

He told Daily Star ahead of the 2020 series: “It will be wonderful in Wales.

“Ant and Dec are great presenters and will make it their own. They are wonderful.

“But please ITV heat up the castle, bring in a few heaters or people will die or pneumonia.”

It comes after rumours emerged that show bosses want the castle for a third year amid Australia lockdown fears, with a TV insider admitting to The Sun that bosses are “taking every step possible” to ensure I’m a Celeb remains on our screens.

This means that they’re “likely” to approach castle management about 2022 “imminently”.

Wales’ first series, however, proved a massive success – attracting the second highest viewer figures of the reality show’s 19 year history with an impressive 14.3million viewers.
