ITV favourite Lorraine Kelly has revealed that it was her husband who noticed a change when she started going through the menopause.
The 61-year-old presenter has openly spoken about the menopause and struggles that she faced at the time she started experiencing symptoms.
She believed that symptoms were caused by her hectic career, admitting she didn’t notice it at all.
“Everybody’s menopause is different, everybody’s symptoms are different, but it’s about getting as much information as you can,” she said.
Lorraine urged women not to be “fobbed off” when raising their concerns with their local doctor and ordered them to stand their ground.
Speaking to Express.co.uk, she revealed that her husband Steve noticed she had been feeling anxious but she claimed it was the “demands” of her job.
The presenter told the publication: “I mean, it was basically my husband who said to me what I was going through.
“He said, ‘you need to get help, you need to go see the doctor because you’re not yourself, you’re used to getting too anxious, in pain, you’re tired.”
The Celebrity Gogglebox star continued: “I just thought all of that was just the demands of the job.
“I got up very early, but I was always able to cope with all of that, I was sort of thriving on stress and the buzz of the telly.
“And I couldn’t understand why all of a sudden I was feeling so tired and again, it’s like what we are seeing with so many women feeling underprepared.
“It creeps up on you, it takes you by surprise and it shouldn’t.”
The star who was speaking to the publication in association with Always Discreet believes that the public should “try and get those conversations going” and having people be open about their struggles.
She that women should no longer feel embarrassed about discussing the menopause and that it should be “just part of life”.
Lorraine has previously spoken about her experience, admitting that the symptoms hit her while she was abroad with family.
Speaking in 2019, she revealed: “It was horrible, and it crept up on me and all of a sudden, I remember [it] vividly.
“I was sitting with Steve and we were away in Spain and it was lovely, beautiful weather and all gorgeous and I just felt completely flat, I had no joy in my life at all.”
She added: “I thought I was going crazy, I couldn’t understand it at all – I lost myself.”
