The Chase fans have slammed ITV producers on Thursday night as viewers watched Bradley Walsh as blind contestant Rob a question based on visual knowledge.
During the latest instalment of the hit quiz show, fellow teammate Rob joined Katheryn, Sue and Nick on the show in an effort to bring home the cash prize.
When the quiz head stepped up to the podium to take on Paul ‘The Sinnerman’ Sinha he was greeted with a warm welcome as he was joined by his furry friend Bobby.
And for this episode there was an extra helping hand as Rob’s supportive guide dog Bobby joined the team and was a huge hit with viewers at home.
But fans were left outraged when former Coronation Street star Bradley Walsh asked Rob: “How many numbers usually appear on a standard UK barcode?”
With Paul hot on his heels, the contestant was devastated when the visual question cropped up and confessed he had “no idea” what answer to play.
Unfortunately, the paralympian answered the question incorrectly when he submitted nine which booted him out of the competition as the Chaser correctly answered 13.
Naturally viewers had thoughts about the insensitive question and wasted no time in slamming the TV producers for their poorly planned questions online.
One user wrote: “Asking a blind contestant how many numbers are there on a barcode is totally absurd” How on earth would they know!”
Another fumed: “#TheChase at it AGAIN with very unfair questions asking a player who’s blind ‘How many numbers are there in a UK barcode? #Disability #DisabilityTwitter.”
A third chimed in with: “That #thechase question was no better than asking the blind contestant ‘what colour of shirt am I wearing?’”
Elsewhere, one user noted: “#thechase should be ashamed asking a blind dude a question which is based on visual knowledge.”
Another argued: “Rather a stupid/ignorant question to ask someone who’s registered blind to know how many numbers are on a barcode”
Meanwhile another questioned: “NOOOO ROB AND BOBBY!!! What a s****y question to go out on! How is Rob meant to see a barcode? No one discusses barcodes ffs [three crying emojis]!!”
And it appears as though this isn’t the first time ITV producers have missed the mark on the hit daytime game show, as viewers clearly recalled when Astrophysics student Josh joined the show back in August.
The visually impaired played joined the team with fellow contestants Lesley, Phil and Jen when they took on chaser Mark ‘The Beast’ Labbett.
During his quick fire round, which saw him save up £5,000, the first question gameshow host Bradley asked Josh was: “At the start of a snooker game, which ball is placed furthest from the player?”
Unfortunately Josh incorrectly picked pink, whereas Mark buzzed in with the correct answer, black.
And it appeared as though viewers weren’t quick to forgive the show for their mistake, as eagle-eyed fans recalled the incident online.
One user remembered: “Last time I saw a blind contestant on here they got a question about snooker, something like what is higher, brown blue or pink. Unfair yeah #thechase.”
Another agreed: “Seems unfair + wrong that #TheChase just asked a sight-impaired contestant about which colour ball is furthest from the player on a snooker table #Disability #DisabilityTwitter.”
