Her decision to start posting content on adults-only subscription site Only Fans cost Hollyoaks favourite Sarah Jayne Dunn her job.
But there’s a new plot twist for fans, as it looks like Sarah Jayne’s character Mandy Richardson won’t be killed off.
That means that Sarah Jayne, 40, could potentially return to the Channel 4 soap down the road.
A source told The Sun: “In soap it’s very common for actors to drift in and out of the show.”
Stars including Coronation Street’s Beverley Callard have left their respective soaps a number of times before returning, while Patsy Palmer and Lacey Turner have “yo-oed” with EastEnders.
“Sarah Jayne even did it herself, leaving in 2011 then coming back in 2017. But the key is whether the character just ‘moves abroad’ or gets jailed – something reversible.
“If the character’s killed off, you know it’s the end.
“So if I was Sarah Jayne, I’d feel pretty relieved there were no plans to bump off Mandy,” the source added.
Hollyoaks said they do not comment on contracts.
As scenes are filmed quite far ahead of time, viewers will continue to see Mandy on screen until early next year.
Earlier this month it was announced that Sarah Jayne had left Hollyoaks following an ultimatum by soap bosses over her joining OnlyFans.
A Hollyoaks spokeswoman said: “Hollyoaks is a youth-facing drama with many young viewers, who follow our cast very closely, both in the soap and outside of it.
“We take our responsibility to our young audience very seriously and therefore the show does not allow any Hollyoaks cast members to be active on certain 18+ websites.
“We had hoped we could reach a resolution with Sarah that would allow her to remain in her role as Mandy, but we respect her choice to continue to produce content on OnlyFans.
“In the past four years since her return to the show her legacy character has been an integral part of some our most important storylines and we will be very sad to see her go.”
After the news broke she gained 11,000 new followers in one day – which would have brought in an estimated £97,000.
Sarah Jayne, who lives in Cheshire with husband Jonathan and their son Stanley, said at the time: “I’m disappointed it has come to this, after so many years.
“I’ve loved being on Hollyoaks and I will miss the amazing cast and crew very much. But I feel like I had to take a stand.”
She first joined the soap in 1996.
