Ben Shephard floored as stunning Tipping Point contestant sobs after making history

Tipping Point fans, along with the show’s host Ben Shephard, were left shocked after a contestant made Tipping Point history by a double–double drop.

The ITV game show saw contestant Maria win a jackpot amount of £10,000 and presenter Ben confessed he was ‘thrilled’ for her.

Ben tweeted after the show to congratulate the lucky competition winner: “So thrilled for Maria! After climbing an absolute mountain to beat Martin – via the first ever Tipping Point double double drop! – she headed home to North Lincolnshire with £10,000 towards the deposit for a house and a honeymoon.”

Maria was head to head with Martin when she dropped her final counter into the machine.

Martin had a huge lead but Maria’s counter pushed nine counters across the tipping point, which included two double points counters.

“Maria, goodness me! This has never happened before.” said Ben as he revealed that this was a Tipping Point first, despite the show being on air for nine years.

He continued: ““We’ve never had two doubles go in one drop. It’s created a bit of Tipping Point history. Now, the question is have you done enough to overhaul what is a 29 counter lead? Martin is way out in front. This is the last counter in this round.”

Ben counted up the points and announced that Maria had indeed beaten Martin: “You are today’s winner with an extraordinary score of £2,650!”

Maria then went on to gamble her earnings in the show’s final round in an attempt to win the ultimate jackpot prize. She was given three counters in exchange for her £2,650, placed them into the machine and managed to win the £10,000 prize.

Ben cheered for her as she won and she replied: “I’m so happy,” as she cried. She apologise, to which Ben said: “Don’t be sorry I’m thrilled for you. Oh my goodness.”

Maria revealed: “I just felt like I should take it. I felt like it was so close,” so Ben replied: “You were right to take it. You trusted your gut, you’ve been absolutely extraordinary.”

“You’ve played a really wonderful game all the way through. Dead and buried in round three, then Tipping Point history with the double-double.

“First time I have ever seen it, first time anyone has ever seen that, then to take the jackpot counter out on the trade as well.”
