Iconic comedian Bill Bailey has revealed he’s taken up skydiving – but his dangerous new hobby left BBC presenter Alex Jones feeling nervous.
In fact, when Bill spoke about his new passion for skydiving on The One Show – show host Alex asked him: “What are you thinking?”
Strictly winner Bill sat down on the green sofa to speak to Alex and co-host Ronan Keating on Friday’s One Show (January 28).
Ronan couldn’t believe it either, because he asked him: “You also talk about your new love of skydiving. I mean, what?!”
A nervous Alex cut in immediately: “Well, Bill. What are you thinking?!”
Bill asked them: “Have you ever skydived?”
Both presenters answered “no”, but Ronan reckoned Alex would try it out.
At first, Alex said she would do it, but later changed her mind.
She said: “I would do it…. I would have done it, I dunno whether I would do it now. I’m getting a bit more nervous as I get a bit older.”
Explaining how he got into skydiving, Bill said: “The thing is, my son got me into it, you see? I was on tour in Australia. The age [for skydiving] is a lot younger. You can do it at twelve.
“In the UK it’s sixteen, so in Australia he said ‘I wanna do it’. He was twelve, and so he got me into it and honestly I was terrified.
“And I went into the plane first think ‘Oh well that’s it, I’ll go last, he’ll go first,’ and then they switch everyone around on the plane, so I was out first.
“So that backfired, horribly!”
He added: “It’s brilliant. The first one is quite terrifying, but then it’s such an amazing adrenaline rush. I thought ‘I’ve gotta do this again’, and I do it regularly now.”
Bill recently starred on Channel 4’s Travel Man – which saw him join comedian presenter Joe Lycett for an episode set in Iceland.
Bailey won Strictly Come Dancing in 2020 – alongside his pro dancing partner Oti Mabuse.
Speaking to Express, Bill said: “I had a brilliant partnership shared with Oti.”
He went on: “And we just got along really well, and I think that was the key to it. “Really, I think very, very early on, we realised that we got on very well.
“We had a real kind of working relationship, or friendship, but it was based on a sort of mutual respect.”
