Hollyoaks actress Bethannie Hare has opened up about her emotional soap exit as troubled Cher McQueen.
The youngster announced her life-changing decision to leave the village during Wednesday’s teary first-look episode on E4.
After attending her father Sylver’s funeral following his tragic death last month, Cher told her family that she was leaving to go and make amends with her mother Kelly Winters.
Opening up about her shock departure, Bethannie told Daily Star: “Cher has been on such a journey and the audience have gone from hating her to loving her and seeing the soft side of her.
“She knows she’s got the McQueens so it’s the right time for her to go and make amends with her mum.
“They ended on a really bad note and her mum left her in the village.
“With her dad passing away, she realises how short life really is.
“It was emotional filming the funeral as it was last scene with the McQueens.”
Bethannie has bene part of the Hollyoaks cast for over 18 months and couldn’t leave without taking an item to remember her time in the fictional village.
The soap star continued: “We have warm coats which we wear on set with out character names on so I took one home to keep as a souvenir of my time at Hollyoaks.”
Cher arrived in Hollyoaks in June 2020 and it was later revealed that she’s the biological daughter of the late Sylver McQueen.
She’s been through plenty of heartbreak and drama as she tried to fit in with the MCQueen clan.
However, Bethannie said that she’s going to miss her work family the most and opened up about their bond off-camera.
“It genuinely it the best group of people I’ve ever met in my life.
“They’re literally like my family. I speak to them all the time even though I’ve left.”
Cher may have just left the village but the door has been left open for her to return.
Teasing whether to not fans will see Cher again, Bethanie said: “Never say never.

As well as being an actress, Bethannie is a singer-songwriter and plans to release new music later this year.
Hollyoaks airs weekdays on Channel 4 at 6.30pm followed by first-look episodes on E4 at 7pm
