Coronation Street's Alexandra Mardell talks huge wedding plans with famous fiancé

As Coronation Street star Alexandra Mardell prepares to exit the ITV cobbles for the last time, the actress is looking to the future – and has shared a snippet of her wedding plans with Daily Star.

Having played Steve McDonald’s daughter Emma Brooker for the past four years, her time on the soap has been marked with a range of incredible storylines – from the accidental killing of elderly Ted to her near marriage to Curtis Delamere.

But luckily, Alexandra’s love life is going a lot more smoothly in real life.

The star has been engaged to her actor fiancé Joe Parker since last year, after love blossomed between them during the Covid-19 lockdown.

The pair decided to move in together when the virus struck after dating for a while, and announced the news of their engagement in April 2021.

Alexandra gushed on Instagram: “Love locked down!!

“1000000 times yes! You make me so happy, my face hurts! Love you ridiculously. Future Mrs Parker.”

And Joe is pretty famous in his own right, having starred in various episodes of BBC soap Doctors as Archie Campbell.

Speaking to Daily Star and other press, Alex teased her plans for the next year, admitting she’s aiming to plan her big day “a little step at a time”.

She said: “Everything’s going off all at once, I love that – it’s very me. But my plans are a lot more successful than Emma’s were anyway!

“I’ve still got just over a year yet, so I’m just doing it a little step at a time, but I’m very excited.”

Alex also shared that her fiancé is helping her with self-tape auditions as she prepares to move on from being Emma.

She said: “It’s a lot busier than I’d initially thought, which is lovely. I love, every time I get an audition through, the process of looking at the character and the part of what I’ve got to do. It’s really exciting.

“I’ve always loved auditioning in the past so it’s nice to get stuck back into that again. Luckily with Joe, because he’s an actor as well, we’ve got our little system so we help each other out a lot.

“We always help each other prepare for auditions, we’re like, ‘What do you think of this, shall I try this?’, so it’s really lucky that we’ve got each other,” the star gushed.

And what does Alexandra hope the future holds for her?

She explained: “Right now I’m open to anything, I’m not specifically aiming for something. TV, film, theatre, musicals. I really would just like to give everything a go now.

“I’d love to do a musical one day, I always wanted to be Miss Hannigan in Annie, but that might have to wait a little while, I don’t think I’m quite old enough!”

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8pm on ITV.
