BBC Breakfast viewers forced to 'switch off' over 'ridiculous' weekend news coverage

BBC Breakfast viewers were unimpressed when the early morning show began to focus on the Champions League final between Liverpool FC and Real Madrid.

Presenters Charlie Stayt and Nina Warhurst turned the conversation to the match and noted that Liverpool are aiming high and could potentially bring home their seventh European Cup.

However, some Breakfast fans were less than enthused about the news as clips of Liverpool fans were shown, along with another reporter who discussed the match.

Many of the BBC ’s loyal viewers took to Twitter to share their disappointment at the morning’s scheduling of football-focussed conversation.

A disgruntled fan wrote: “Not much news on, is there? Too much talking about football.”

Viewers who had tuned in for the news were not impressed

Another said: “I switched off after 30 minutes of non-stop football. Ridiculous.”

A further viewer angrily tweeted: “Was expecting some coverage in the news this morning about Boris Johnson diluting the ministerial code and taking us a step closer to dictatorship status. Instead, it’s just about the Champions League.”

Another of the show’s fans wondered if there was “anything else happening” except the football, while one was a little more optimistic about the coverage.

Some deemed the coverage as excessive

They joyfully posted that the BBC Breakfast report on the final had “gotten them pretty excited” for the match.

Sports reporter John Watson was in France and spoke to the studio but one viewer noted that it “must be nice” for him to “spend his weekend in Paris” when the BBC “isn’t covering the game”.

Then played a segment with correspondent Matt Graveling in which he spoke to football fans who had travelled to watch the monumental match.

One admitted that they were “excited” for the “biggest game they had attended by far” and said that “of course Liverpool can do it”.

Tensions were high as the match was due to begin, which were made worse as the organisers were called out for the way they managed the crowd.

Chaotic scenes ensued prior to the beginning of the match, where fans were pressed up against fences, tear gas was administered and the match was delayed.

To make matters worse, Liverpool eventually lost to Madrid after they fought valiantly for their seventh chance at the crown.
