Deena Payne
Deena is best known for playing the late Viv Hope in Emmerdale, who was married to Bob before she was killed off in a fire in 2011.
But before becoming the soap star we all know and love, Deena was a member of the girl band Cats UK.
In promotional pictures of the band, its four members – including lead singer Bea Rowley – can be seen in skintight hot pants and tight tops featuring intrinsically 70s shoulder pads.
Deena even made the charts with novelty pop song Luton Airport in 1979, which reached Number 22 in the UK Singles Chart.
Speaking of her experience in the band, Deena said in 2010: “In 1978 there was an advert for a girl group called Cats UK. I auditioned as I was in musical theatre and I got the job – it was to sing Luton Airport.
“Clearly this song was done for Lorraine [Chase], she’d said it in a famous advert for Campari. But Lorraine didn’t really want to have anything to do with it. So Cats UK ended up recording it.”
After Cats UK stopped released music, Deena performed with on-screen hubby Antony Audenshaw who plays Bob in the soap.
He and Deena performed at the annual TV Times Carols With The Stars festive concert at the Royal Albert Hall on December 11, 2003.
Olivia Bromley
Away from her role of Dawn Taylor – which she has portrayed since 2018 – actress Olivia fronts an indie band named Damsen.
The band have recorded tracks entitled Something Good and This Isn’t Love.
With “hazy” and mellow vocals from Olivia, the tracks are all downtempo and feature “sleek guitar riffs”.
She previously spoke to The Mirror about her music career, where she said that she admired Dean Andrews’ music career, who plays her on-screen father.
She said: “I suppose we’re like the Von Trapps. He’s a fantastic singer. We have an Emmerdale band that various cast members sing in, but because of Covid we haven’t been able to do any gigs.”
In 2020 she even sung a song on the Emmerdale YouTube channel, with the video titled: “The Woolpack Sessions: Womack & Womack – Teardrops – Olivia Bromley (Dawn From Emmerdale).”
Singing a stunning rendition of the song, fans swooned over the stunning actress’ voice.
One person took the comments section and said: “That was better than the original Olivia in my opinion!!! Love your version what a talented bunch you are Emmerdale cast!!!! Hope you bring out a CD!!!! Thank you keep well. Big hugs xx.”
While another added: “Wow it’s like an angels singing! I watch Emmerdale every day you are all very talented people and doesn’t shock me at all you’re amazing singers too.”
Lucy Pargeter
The Chastity Dingle star who has been a fixture in the soap since 2002 has had a stint in the music world.
Lucy enjoyed musical fame with band Paper Dolls who toured as a support act for Boyzone and released the 1998 hit-single Gonna Make You Blush.
Speaking to Inside Soap, Lucy revealed that her time in the band was “a blast”.
Adding: “Three girls on the road in their 20s having the best time.”
She went on: “It was a laugh. We went from thinking we were just a few girls getting together and doing a few songs, to getting signed by a record label and touring. It was a great time.”
On the YouTube video for Gonna Make You Blush, fans of the band commented below, with one even comparing the track to being like something that the Spice Girls would sing.
“Sounds like something that the Spice Girls would sing,” penned one.
Another added: “God she still looks exactly the same,” referring to Lucy.
While a third said: “That’s a great song!”
Thoren Ferguson
In Emmerdale Thoren plays Kit – Marlon’s physio therapist and the love rat who slept with Laurel and her step-daughter Gabby.
But away from his player tendencies, Thoren is a high-flyer in the world of music, and an award-winning musician.
He is fiddler who plays the violin and specialises in Ceillidh and Traditional Scottish folk.
As well as performing and charging £600 on site Encore if you want to book him, he also teaches and composes.
Thoren performs solo, but is also a part of band The Jacobites.
The band’s website states: “The Jacobites are an exceptional ceilidh band based in Edinburgh that offer professional ceilidhs for weddings, festivals and events.”
Adding: “We’re the founders of the Edinburgh Street Ceilidh and we’ve taught thousands of people to ceilidh dance, our ceilidh is a mix of high energy traditional and contemporary Scottish tunes. We also play covers and Scottish songs and we call all the dances.”
Their page says that they play all over Scotland, the UK and Europe, and that they “offer a ceilidh with a difference”.
