Celebs who misbehaved at Buckingham Palace – stolen loo rolls and spliff smoking

Celebrities have had their turn at being mischievous even under the watchful eye of the late Queen Elizabeth II.

Even Oscar-winning actress Olivia Colman, who plays the Queen in the Netflix series The Crown, has confessed to a naughty moment wherein her husband stole a souvenir while visiting the landmark palace.

Although refusing to comment on various celebrity incidents, a spokesperson for the palace revealed that guests don’t normally take anything after their visits.

“We get nearly 50,000 visitors a year and if they all took souvenirs there wouldn’t be much left,” they told the BBC.

The Daily Star has compiled a list of celebrities who have had their rogue moments at the Queen’s famous headquarters at Buckingham Palace.

Denise Van Outen

Denise reportedly stole an ashtray and a tissue box holder

Denise Van Outen confessed that she had “borrowed” an ashtray and a tissue box holder back in 1998 when visiting Buckingham Palace.

Speaking to viewers on Channel 4’s The Big Breakfast at the time, Denise admitted that it was “just a bit of fun” but still sent a comedic gift – a stuffed camel – to the palace with an apologetic note.

The note read: “Sorry, Ma’am. I didn’t meant to give you the hump.”

Despite her confession, former spokesman to the Queen, Dickie Arbiter, questioned whether Denise had stolen an ashtray, as non-smoking zones had been establish well before Denise’s confession.

Robbie Williams

Robbie Williams confessed to having smoked a spliff at Buckingham Palace

Take That star and Angels singer Robbie Williams took things a step further whilst denying having vomited in the palace toilets and confirmed that instead, he had dabbled in drugs during his visit.

The star told The Sun in 2017: “Threw up in Buckingham Palace? No. I smoked a spliff in Buckingham Palace.”

The paper suggested Robbie’s naughty antics took place during the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Concert in 2012.

Emma Bunton

Emma pinched a sign from the ladies’ loos

Seemingly innocent Baby Spice Emma Bunton revealed on ITV2’s Celebrity Juice that she had stolen a sign from the ladies’ toilets during a performance at Buckingham Palace.

Emma’s incident is said to have happened during the Queen’s Golden Jubilee back in 2002.

During time of filming, her celebrity co-stars thought that the naughty secret actually belonged to Fearne Cotton.

Olivia Colman

Olivia confirmed her husband had stolen loo roll from the palace

The Oscar-winning actress known for her iconic role as the Queen in Netflix’s The Crown confessed to seeing theft take place at the palace when her and husband visited.

Although not exactly complicit, Olivia confessed: “My husband stole some loo roll just to say we got it from Buckingham Palace.”

Dickie Arbiter commented on stolen loo roll, claiming the act to be “ridiculous” as the toilet paper isn’t embossed.

“It’s quite ridiculous. The toilet paper doesn’t have ‘Buckingham Palace’ on it, it’s just plain white paper like everyone else has,” he says.

Piers Morgan

Piers reportedly has a collection of loo roll from the rich and famous

Following in Olivia Colman’s husband’s footsteps, Piers nabbed a roll of toilet paper after his visit, but confessed to being a serial loo roll thief when frequenting the bathrooms of the rich and famous.

Piers once confirmed he had a collection of stolen toilet paper, one being from fellow Britain’s Got Talent judge Simon Cowell, whose paper is said to be “black and monogrammed”.

Simon’s stolen loo paper sits next to the Queen’s at Piers’ home.

Dickie Arbiter slammed souvenir hunters, calling for them to “go to Poundland and buy yourself a pack of nine”.

The Beatles

Beatle George Harrison says the boys were “nervous” to misbehave at Buckingham Palace

The Beatles legend John Lennon had once claimed that the iconic pop group had smoked cannabis in the toilets of Buckingham Palace.

However, fellow Beatle George Harrison later disputed the claim, saying the boys were far too nervous to be there to smoke a spliff and instead opted for an ordinary cigarette.

“Because we were so nervous,” he confessed.

Stephen Fry

Stephen Fry listed Buckingham Palace as one of the high-profile places he took drugs

Comedian and close friend to King Charles the Third confirmed that Buckingham Palace was one of the many high-profile locations that he had experimented with drugs.

Fry confessed to taking cocaine in the toilets of Buckingham Palace as well as the House of Lords, the House of Commons and the BBC Television Centre in his memoir More Fool Me.

He wrote: “I have brought, you might say, gorgeous palaces, noble properties and elegant honest establishments into squalid disrepute.”
