Coronation Street viewers in meltdown as rarely-seen character makes huge comeback

Coronation Street fans seemed overjoyed when a rarely-seen character made a comeback on Friday night (February 10).

Amid the storyline that saw Beth Tinker working on samples for Sarah Barlow and Michael Bailey’s new business venture, she got the sewing machine in the factory jammed.

While Beth and Sarah’s uncle and business partner Stephen Reid were trying to un-jam the machine, a familiar face appeared on-screen.

Coming around the corner to see what all the fuss was about, Izzy Armstrong appeared in front of Stephen and Beth.

Fans were quick to spot Izzy back in the factory

When Izzy appeared on-screen, one fan instantly penned: “Izzy,” alongside a string of heart emojis.

Another noted: “Not seen Izzy in a while,” complete with a grinning face emoji.

A third then joked: “Izzy hasn’t had this many lines since pre-Covid. Can’t shut her up!”

“Nobody asked Izzy where she’s been for 3 years?” asked a fourth.

While a fifth said: “What a horrible bunch of machinists in Underworld, Izzy returns after three years and none of them ask where she’s been.”

Beth has been doing work on the side for Sarah, Michael and Stephen

This came as Beth worried about Carla realising that she had been moonlighting in the factory premises for sacked employees Sarah and Michael.

Later on in the episode, Beth fell asleep at her sewing machine after pulling an all-nighter working for Sarah’s new venture.

In this scene, Izzy could be seen singing to Bruno Mars’ Uptown Funk while Beth remained fast asleep, which left fans in stitches.

Elsewhere in the episode Izzy could be seen singing while she worked

“Beth snoring at her machine,” penned one complete with a slew of laughing emojis, while another penned: “Izzy singing and Beth snoring . I love the factory scenes.”

While a third tagged Cherylee Houston – the actress that portrays Izzy – and penned: “Don’t believe me just watch! Go Cherylee!”

At the end of the episode the same viewer who cheered on Cherylee penned a touching message which read: “Loving watching my friend @cheryleehouston aka Izzy on @itvcorrie tonight.

“I’m so delighted she is back on the show now. I had missed seeing talented actors with a disability like her on the show over the last year.”

Cherylee, 48, who has Hypermobility Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, landed the role of Izzy in Coronation Street back in 2010.

She was awarded an MBE for her services to drama and to people with disabilities in 2022.
